Celebrities at the ‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’ London Film Festival Opening Gala
The cast of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery rolled into town for the opening gala of the 2025 BFI London Film Festival, held at The Royal Festival Hall on Wednesday night.

Pure star power
As we know, Kerry Washington can be frustratingly inconsistent on the red carpet, but she was a shimmered goddess in this silver Oscar de la Renta strapless gown. The liquid-metal effect of the sequins accentuated every curve, giving her a statuesque and sculpted presence.

Understated, but not unnoticed
Mila Kunis was true to form wearing a custom black Dolce & Gabbana strapless gown. The embellished bodice ensured this didn’t read as boring, but yes — this was a typically understated look for the actress. I’d be lying if I didn’t point out that the bodice appears a touch too loose and sits slightly low, which throws off the proportions a bit. Still, it’s classic Mila — unfussy. Repossi jewels completed her look beautifully.

Gloves debate opened
Glenn Close’s Giorgio Armani black and silver jersey bodysuit with matching trousers might cause a divide. There’s no denying that this look aligns perfectly with her red carpet persona — powerful, confident, and unapologetic. The gloves, however, will split opinion. On one hand, they add a touch of theatricality and vintage glamour that feels fitting for her. On the other, some may wish the look featured long sleeves instead. But honestly, she carries it with such poise and authority that she sells them to me.

Soft elegance
Cailee Spaeny looked graceful in a Miu Miu cream organdy and embroidered organza gown. The delicate textures and subtle shimmer captured her refined, vintage-inspired charm beautifully on the red carpet.

Classic tailoring, quietly confident
Rachel Weisz opted not to upstage her husband, choosing a pared-back Giorgio Armani black tuxedo. It was sleek, minimal, and utterly timeless.
The best of British tailoring
You can always rely on Daniel Craig to deliver Savile Row excellence. His Anderson & Sheppard ‘House Special’ grey herringbone flannel suit — exclusively woven by Fox Brothers — was a masterclass in refined dressing. Every detail, from the Anderson & Sheppard Haberdashery tie and pocket square to the Budd London shirt and Crockett & Jones Pembroke shoes, reflected his appreciation for craftsmanship. Quietly confident, impeccably British, and unmistakably Daniel Craig.

Relaxed, but irresistible
Josh Brolin took a more relaxed approach in Berluti. While some might say this wasn’t opening gala attire, I’d only agree from the waist down — because that green suede leather jacket? Perfection. It gave the look a dose of rugged sophistication that aligns with his style. The trousers? Not so much.

Bold colour, tricky finish
Andrew Scott will never play it safe, and this look proves it. The yellow jacket, pink shirt, and olive trousers embody his fearless approach to style, but the black tie and white shoes slightly disrupt the harmony. Still, I’d rather see him take risks than retreat into predictability.

Polka dots, revived
If you thought the polka dot trend had faded, Daryl McCormack just brought it back — styling his Emporio Armani grey double-breasted suit with a dotted tie. The triple-tonal waistband is where I draw the line however.

Director Mode
Seeing Greta Gerwig in that pinstripe suit, my muscle memory immediately kicked in and I found myself googling to check if she was the director of this film. But as it turns out, Wake Up Dead Man is directed by Rian Johnson — so this was purely a style choice, not a case of her “suiting up” in director mode. And honestly, she looks amazing.
