Celebrities at the Lucas Museum Opening
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art Opening Night in Los Angeles on Saturday brought out an eclectic guest list, with Tracee Ellis Ross, Queen Latifah, Michael B. Jordan, Lewis Hamilton and more joining Kerry Washington and Kim Kardashian for the celebration.
Deliciously Over The Top
Tracee Ellis Ross wore a Bottega Veneta Fall 2026 silk-fur dress that was typically and deliciously over the top. But I wouldn’t have her step onto this red carpet any other way. The oversized sleeves and shaggy texture make this a lot of look, but Tracee has always had the personality to carry fashion at this scale. A red Bottega Veneta Lauren 1979 clutch provided the perfect contrast.
A Regal Change Of Pace
I was so delighted to see Queen Latifah in this gold-embellished Roland Mouret dress. Our Queen is usually the queen of tailoring or caped silhouettes, so I’m happy to see her presenting something completely different here. The simple column shape lets the gold finish do all the work, and she looks amazing.
Jewels Take The Lead
Miranda Kerr wore a black Rebecca Vallance strapless dress decorated with a crystal lattice and floral embellishments. It’s a classic silhouette for Miranda, but the elaborate detailing gives it enough presence for the occasion.
Classic Tailoring
Michael B. Jordan kept things classic in a black Tom Ford double-breasted suit. I would have been on board with this had the grooming been better.
His Favourite Proportions
Lewis Hamilton joined his girlfriend Kim Kardashian in wearing Saint Laurent, although while hers was archival, Lewis opted for a contemporary take on his favoured oversized silhouette. The broad-shouldered jacket and wide-leg trousers are proportions we’ve seen him embrace repeatedly, and the open neckline, sunglasses and jewellery kept it unmistakably Lewis.
Velvet With A Twist
This Bella Freud suit is such a great look for Laura Dern. I like the relaxed proportions on her, and the contrasting shirt prevents all that black velvet from feeling too heavy.
Copper From Head To Toe
Keke Palmer went fully tonal in a copper Saint Laurent Spring 2024 mini dress, even matching the look with her curly auburn hair. It’s a simple dress, some might say underwhelming by her standards, but the colour story makes it memorable.
Déjà Vu
Why do I feel like I’ve seen Katy Perry in this silhouette many times before? Her Christian Siriano Spring 2027 white halterneck gown is certainly flattering, but between the high neckline, fitted waist and gathered hips, the déjà vu is screaming at me.
Still In Her Sheer Era
Janelle Monáe is still in her sheer era, this time wearing an Antonio Grimaldi Spring 2026 Couture gown. The rows of black beading give the transparency some structure and prevent any exposure.
The Shoulder Says It All
Greta Gerwig wore an Ashlyn Fall 2026 black dress, which is a relatively simple look, but the single flourish on the shoulder gives it enough character.
Think Pink
Doja Cat opted for a sheer fuchsia NUÉ halterneck gown. Between the colour, transparency and towering platforms, subtle was clearly never on the agenda.
Too Much Velvet
Cynthia Erivo’s Khaite Fall 2026 dress immediately reminded me of the Louis Vuitton velvet strapless gown she wore to the Sydney premiere of Wicked, and my commentary is much the same: she is completely overwhelmed by the velvet. The voluminous peplum already creates significant width through the hips, so the skirt below needed to be considerably narrower for this silhouette to work on her.
Going For Gold
Camila Cabello wore a gold Donna Karan gown with an open-knit finish and layered necklaces. The warm metallic tone works beautifully on her, and I like that the styling follows the relaxed feel of the dress.
Autumnal Hues
Alicia Keys wore a Farm Rio Monstera cutwork leather midi dress, with her Christian Louboutin shoes adding to the autumnal palette.
Sculpted In Red
Bella Poarch’s Do Long gown is all about the sculpted hooded neckline. There’s no shortage of drama here, which is always her red-carpet M.O., and the matching red shoes were absolutely the right choice.
Draped In Sunset Shades
I’m pretending not to notice the shoes while focusing on the sunset hues of Camila Alves’ LaQuan Smith Spring 2026 dress. This colour palette looks beautiful against her complexion.
