Janelle Monáe In Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture – 2019 Grammy Awards

Fashion Blogger Catherine Kallon features Janelle Monáe In Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture - 2019 Grammy Awards

Janelle Monáe was also on the 2019 Grammy Awards red carpet on Sunday (February 10) in L.A.

Looking at this Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2019 Haute Couture dress from afar and you might think the singer had returned to her signature black-and-white palette. But, the darker hue was actually aubergine — and it matched her velveteen pumps.

Everything about this look said Janelle’s name — from the striking, sculptural silhouette of the pointy dress to the equally impactful plane of that fascinator.

I loved seeing how she took the design and made it her own, which was a complete departure from its original runway presentation.

2019 Roc Nation THE BRUNCH

Fashion Blogger Catherine Kallon features 2019 Roc Nation THE BRUNCH

There were many more stars who joined Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z at the 2019 Roc Nation THE BRUNCH event on Saturday (February 9) in Los Angeles, California.

Pusha T: The rapper joined Jay-Z by rocking at light blue suit. You should recognise this Alexander McQueen look, as it was first worn by Timothée Chalamet during the San Sebastian Film Festival back in September. Like Timothée, Pusha T also opted for sneakers.

Janelle Monáe: Mixing colour via Emanuel Ungaro, with her signature black and white, the actress proves that pigeonholing her style-wise isn’t a smart move.

Janelle Monae In Chanel – 2019 Golden Globe Awards

Fashion Blogger Catherine Kallon features Janelle Monae In Chanel - 2019 Golden Globe Awards

Janelle Monae struck a regal pose at the 2019 Golden Globes on Sunday (January 6) in Beverly Hills, California.

The singer-actress showcased her directional style in a Chanel Pre-Fall 2019 ensemble with Chanel fine jewelry.

She might have kept her look closely mirroring the runway’s but the result still seems very much in her wheelhouse. You can practically feel the queenly confidence emanating from her.

It’s not often we see tweed on an awards season red carpet, but it’s a night of surprising choices. And the performer has pulled off her look with ease.

Entertainer Of The Year – Janelle Monáe

Entertainer Of The Year – Janelle Monáe

Janelle Monáe’s stylist, Alexandra Mandelkorn, introduced more colour into the entertainers red carpet appearances, but Monáe’s tried-and-true black-and-white palette has always been a part of her red carpet journey in 2018.

Back in April Alexandra said, “Janelle’s showing another side of her. And with that comes more colour, more information, more colour, more facets of her femininity.”

This was beautifully showcased in her Nicolas Jebran gown worn to the BET Awards, which remains her most colourful look to date.

My personal favourite Janelle moment was her Christian Siriano suit worn to the Vanity Fair Oscar party. I often wonder if I would’ve loved it as much in black and white, and I’m sure I would have because this look was more about the cut and tailoring.

Janelle Monae In Wolk Morais – ‘Welcome To Marwen’ LA Premiere

Janelle Monáe struck a pose at the ‘Welcome To Marwen’ LA premiere on Monday (December 10). She attended the event alongside Leslie MannGwendoline Christie and Diane Kruger.

This graphic Wolk Morais Fall 2018 outfit plays into her aesthetic perfectly.

She has taken the runway version and made it look like the pieces were made for her with the addition of the hat, patent ankle boots and sharp shirt and tie.

The patterned clutch even plays off the design on the separates.

Janelle Monae In Gareth Pugh – Billboard Women In Music 2018

Janelle Monae In Gareth Pugh - Billboard Women In Music 2018

There was more suiting at the 2018 Billboard Women In Music on Thursday (December 6) in New York City, where Janelle Monae took on this Gareth Pugh Spring 2019 look.

My issue with this jumpsuit is two-fold.

1. It doesn’t appear to fit, and it totally overwhelms her petite frame.

2. The trousered part reminds me of the Y/Project jeans we saw on Solange Knowles, Hailey Baldwin and Gigi Hadid, that were all the rage earlier this year.

I see where Janelle was going with this look, but unfortunately I’m not able to accompany her on this journey.

Janelle Monae In Blazé Milano – Smithsonian Magazine’s 2018 American Ingenuity Awards

Janelle Monae was at Smithsonian Magazine’s 2018 American Ingenuity Awards in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday (December 5).

She celebrated her signature black-and-white palette with this Blaze Milano Fall 2018 tuxedo dress.

But, as is customary, she completely made the look her own by adding the decorative white dress shirt and two-tone lace-up shoes.

As is also to be expected, she brought even more personality via the singular bauble earring and sassy pearl-encrusted beret that also had unicorn and peace-sign pins for meaningful, modern panache.

It just really made this little mini all the more special, and she worked it like no other.

Front Row @ Chanel Pre-Fall 2019

Fashion Blogger Catherine Kallon feature the Front Row @ Chanel Pre-Fall 2019

The Chanel Pre-Fall 2019 fashion show took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Wednesday (December 5). The front row was a sight to behold with a range of breathtaking looks.

Margot Robbie: After wearing the designer to the ‘Mary Queen of Scots’ New York premiere, the Australian beauty donned a voluminous Chanel Spring 2019 dress. With its trapeze silhouette and frills it had a light-as-air feel, but the black helped ground the look and give it a more formal finish.

Penelope Cruz: The Spanish actress might not have had the easiest time sitting in this Chanel Pre-Fall 2017 gown but the feather-adorned style made a statement. She removed the delicate pink belt, but I’m curious to see how it would have looked with a darker style.

Janelle Monáe In Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture – 2018 Glamour Women of the Year Awards

Janelle Monáe In Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture - 2018 Glamour Women of the Year Awards

Janelle Monáe was honoured with The Visionary Award at the 2018 Glamour Women of the Year Awards on Monday (November 12) in New York City. She attended alongside Claire DanesAmber Heard and Lupita Nyong’o.

The singer-actress adhered to her signature monochromatic colour palette in Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2018 Haute Couture.

It’s fascinating to see how the key pieces from the runway look remain but she has interpreted them in a way that’s purely her own.

The dress’s longer length could be a sticking point for some, although, it adds a more formal feel.

A good compromise would be a hair shorter to show the sock garter detail.

22nd Annual Hollywood Film Awards

22nd Annual Hollywood Film Awards

The busy weekend of events saw more celebs join Nicole Kidman and Anne Hathaway on the red carpet for the 22nd Annual Hollywood Film Awards on Sunday (November 4) in LA.

Shailene Woodley: In recent times when I see Shailene, I feel like I should know her style by now, but it’s like she’s in the development–experimental stage at present. For example, back in 2014 when she was promoting ‘Divergent’ I don’t think she would’ve worn this Ralph & Russo jacket and shorts combo. While the look does feel fresh and new, I found the sleeves overwhelming here. Yvan Tufenkjian earrings and Christian Louboutin ‘So Kate’ pumps completed her look.

Janelle Monae: I always feel like there is a theme going on with Janelle, and on this occasion I love the ’60s mod theme imbued within her tri-colour The 2nd Skin Co. dress complete with white go-go boots.

Sophia Bush: I adore the luxe texture of her animal print A.L.C. suit, but the pink ADEAM bag was an eyesore with this look. Sophia’s accessories are usually on point, so I’m really disappointed on this occasion.

Janelle Monae In Conversation With Brittany Spanos

Janelle Monae In Conversation With Brittany Spanos

Janelle Monae in Conversation with Brittany Spanos took place at 92nd Street Y on Tuesday (October 16) in New York City.

It’s been a long while since we saw Janelle on the red carpet, but one thing has remained the same.

Her love for all things black and white.

Alice + Olivia expertly balances exposure with concealment and creates a contradictory silhouette that contrasts a high Victoriana neckline with a semi-sheer tiered skirt.

It’s textural too, with the addition of stripes worked into the floral embroidered lace for an extra dose of fun.

As always, her look is brimming with personality from H-2-T.
