Celebrities at the 2025 Gotham Awards
The 2025 Gotham Awards took place on Monday in New York, honoring outstanding achievements in television. The night was dominated by the Netflix limited series Adolescence, which emerged as the evening’s biggest winner.

Shouldering the style spotlight
Renée Zellweger looked every inch the statuesque icon in a classic black Magda Butrym dress. What I loved most is how it feels familiar, but isn’t a rewear. It’s what I like to call Zellweger’s Signature Sweet Spot: quietly elegant, quietly confident, and above all, off-the-shoulder.

Déjà Dior
Rachel Brosnahan wore a Christian Dior Fall 2025 black embroidered dress featuring a crinoline skirt that gave us serious flashbacks to Natalie Portman’s Cannes moment. Some might call that repetitive; I call it a clever way to let a silhouette shine on multiple muses. Add in the Dior black pumps, Anita Ko and Rainbow K jewels, and we have an elegant triumph.

Gorgeous gown, but where are your platforms?
AnnaSophia Robb’s LEIN Maya strapless gown was simple in it’s design, but I was distracted by how it just needed a bit of a lift—literally. A pair of platform heels would’ve been the perfect finishing touch to give this look the height it was craving.

Hmmm?
I love Britt Lower’s style—it’s always a little offbeat and intriguing, much like a Louis Vuitton’s design aesthetic, which is why I had high hopes here. But this white gown with black piping felt a little too subdued for both parties. It lacked the sharp edge or creative twist we’ve come to expect from either Britt or Vuitton, resulting in a look that felt more underplayed than understated.

Column dress masterclass
Carrie Coon just delivered a masterclass in column dress proportions. Her white gown, featuring a striking sculptural neckline, was tailored to absolute perfection. The hem skimmed the floor at the ideal length—no awkward bunching, no unsightly creases—just clean, uninterrupted lines. It’s the kind of precise fit that makes a minimalist silhouette feel impossibly elevated. Flawless, elegant, and expertly executed.

Cut-out queen
Chase Sui Wonders stepped into Miu Miu and gave us a look that demanded a side profile. The velvet dress’ main event was a daring side cut-out, which explains why you won’t find many front-facing photos. Paired with Tiffany & Co. jewels, this was subtly seductive and entirely chic.

Chartreuse but make it couture
I have a feeling Cristin Milioti’s Dior Haute Couture velvet embroidered gown might divide opinion, but I’m firmly in the pro-chartreuse camp. It’s such a refreshing departure from her usual palette of black, brown, and navy. That said, I do wish the gown had been tailored more precisely to her frame. On the runway, it felt regal and refined, but here it’s veering slightly matronly, which is a shame considering how striking the colour and embroidery are. A better fit could’ve transformed this into a real showstopper.

Committed
As you know, I love a good cummerbund—but Erin Doherty’s chest-high version from Thom Browne, paired with an exaggeratedly long-sleeved shirt, took things into far more theatrical territory. The proportions are so extreme, it’s less red carpet and more “ready to be restrained.” It’s giving straightjacket chic, which I’m not sure was the brief.

Short suit, big energy
Ever Carradine was here to have fun in Harbison, wearing a brocade short suit in black, purple, and pink metallics. The Iris pattern shimmered in the light, and the whole vibe was equal parts festive and fierce. Harbison rarely misses, and this certainly wasn’t one of those times.

Marc Bouwer, we missed you
Haley Kalil brought a slice of red carpet nostalgia in this stunning Marc Bouwer gown. The white V-neck silhouette with silver embellishments was sleek, modern, and old-school glam all at once. It’s time we see more of his magic return to the circuit.

Not quite
Jenny Slate scored a win for Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Limited Series for Dying for Sex, but her Thom Browne look fell flat for me. She usually gravitates toward lighter palettes, so the darker tones felt a bit heavy. And I can’t help but recall how stunning this same dress looked on Ariana Grande—without the cape. Still, the white striped detailing on her feet brought a playful edge to the look

Beaded beauty with Ferretti finesse
Justine Lupe served up glamour in an Alberta Ferretti Pre-Fall 2025 lace gown, complete with a plunging neckline and beaded embellishments. It was dramatic in the right ways—romantic, rich in texture, and perfectly suited for a moody New York night.

Padded shoulders, heavy heart
Leslie Bibb’s Stella McCartney Fall 2025 dress left me scratching my head. The padded shoulders were a touch too linebacker, and the red pumps felt more costume than chic. A rare miss from someone whose style I usually admire.

Boho and bougie
Parker Posey gave us her usual quirky goddess energy in a cream Valentino Pre-Fall 2025 maxi dress, punctuated with retro pink shades and exquisite Tiffany & Co. jewels. These glasses wouldn’t work on most people with this dress (aside from Natasha Lyonne), but for Parker, it’s pure magic.

Draped and divine
Poorna Jagannathan looked utterly regal collecting her Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Comedy Series for Deli Boys. Her blue Stella McCartney Spring 2025 gown came complete with cape detailing and Grecian-inspired draping. She embodied effortless power—both in design and poise.

The icon gets her moment
Sheryl Lee Ralph collected the Sidney Poitier Icon Tribute in a Rachel Gilbert Blaine black dress that was pure, classic elegance. No gimmicks, no distractions—just grace and reverence for a woman who deserves the world.

Print it, but pair it right
Skye P. Marshall was radiant in a Laurence Basse look featuring a bold, African-inspired print. My only qualm? The shoes. With a look this impactful, the footwear needed to rise to the occasion. Almost perfect, but not quite.
The Gotham Awards may honour television’s best, but this red carpet gave us a full-season arc of fashion highs, fashion risks, and a few cliffhangers I’m still processing. Who stands out for you here?
