The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Opening Gala Red Carpet Roundup

Olivia Rodrigo in Saint Laurent - The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Opening Gala

There were many more celebrities who joined the likes of Nicole Kidman, Katy Perry and Ruth Negga on the red carpet for The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Opening Gala on Saturday (September 25) in Los Angeles, California.

The bustier cut of Olivia Rodrigo’s Saint Laurent’s black dress is perhaps her most sultry look to date.

The explosive feminine energy might not be to everyone’s taste, but I think she looks sensational.

Some would say that this has the same energy as Amandla Stenberg’s Gucci look from last week.

Anna Kendrick in Dolce & Gabbana - The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Opening Gala

From sultry to sweet, the silhouette of Anna Kendrick’s dress should be instantly recognisable to you as Dolce & Gabbana

Kwiat jewels completed her look.

Yes. This is Jenna Dewan wearing the same Chanel Pre-Fall 2021 romper which Kristen Stewart wore during the 2021 Venice Film Festival.

The difference is, Kristen didn’t kill the look with a ton of overwhelming accessories.

I don’t know what is worse. The choker, the shoes or the lace leggings.

There is way too much going on here, and none of it is good.

When it comes to Regina Hall in this Julien Macdonald Spring 2020 dress, I am – as a lover of fringe detailing – wondering if this dress overcooked it.

My head says yes, but my heart won’t follow. I kinda love this.

Minimalist Maggie Gyllenhaal continues from the 2021 Venice Film Festival wearing a one-sleeve dress from Stella McCartney.

Yes to the dress. No to the black Jimmy Choo ‘Nicole’ shoes with this dress.

Tiffany Haddish kinda set the bar really high with her Venice Film Festival premiere look, so for a gala, I was a little underwhelmed by this Christian Siriano Spring 2022 look.

She looks great.  No doubt.  The black and white colourway is very classic.

Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs were Cushnie et Ochs. Then Carly broke away to create Cushine.  Now Michelle Ochs is back with her new label Et Ochs.

From what I see the M.O. is the same from when the label was Cushnie et Ochs, but Leslie Grace’s sultry, streamline cut-out dress is from the Et Ochs Spring 2022 collection

Lily Rabe gave us a first glimpse of her maternity style wearing a Carolina Herrera Spring 2021 joyful polka dot gown styled with Irene Neuwirth jewels.

We have seen this style of Alex Perry dress numerous of times, so I love how Jamie Lee Curtis gave this signature dress a new lease of life with her Cathy Waterman recycled platinum and ethically sourced diamond spiderweb mesh necklace

Adorned all-over with dazzling crystals, this Celine slip dress is effortlessly transformed into a standout piece that was destined to shimmer all night long on Kaia Gerber, who styled her look with Tiffany & Co. jewelry.

I think this Brandon Maxwell Resort 2022 dress might just be a personal best for MJ Rodriguez.

Laura Dern wore a Roland Mouret Spring 2022 ‘Castro’ dress.

I’m not entirely sure about the silhouette, but the black geo-sequins are luminous, they are single handedly selling this to me.

I would’ve expected a gown from Halle Berry, but she kept things short and sweet in Etro Fall 2020.

Adriana Lima wore a gold Nicolas Jebran gown which was pretty, but once again felt dated.

Ava DuVernay checked the patchwork trend in Greta Constantine.

I love Cher, but this Dolce & Gabbana look was really disjointed and all over the place for me. And not in a way that I find endearing.

Abigail Breslin continues to show her impressive red carpet form, wearing this Pamella Roland gown with Lark & Berry jewelry.  I’m glad she didn’t opt to go too casual like many on this red carpet.

Selma Blair looked sensational wearing a Rokh Fall 2021 look. I really enjoy seeing how she sells a red carpet look.

Billie Lourd wore a vintage Giorgio Sant’Angelo from Shrimpton Couture.

Angela Bassett was looking as regal as ever wearing an Elie Saab Fall 2019 Haute Couture jumpsuit.

I think she should’ve kept the train however.
