Celebrities at the 2025 Met Gala Red Carpet Roundup
The Superfine: Tailoring Black Style theme for the 2025 Met Gala set the stage for red carpet experimentation, and while not everyone passed the tailoring test, a select few aced it with flair.

Haute Maternity
Kiara Advani made a breathtaking Met debut in Gaurav Gupta Couture, effortlessly blending Indian craftsmanship with haute couture theatrics. Her off-the-shoulder black gown, framed by a sweeping white sculpted train, already had drama on lock — but the gold breastplate encircling her baby bump? That was a mic drop moment. Regal, powerful, and deeply symbolic, it encapsulated both strength and motherhood with elegance.

Tailored with a purpose and styled with soul
Aimee Lou Wood wore a deeply considered Ahluwalia look inspired by Congolese Sapeurs and Black style icons, with details like silk lapels, a precisely placed Cartier brooch, and floral Bombas socks honouring Nigerian and Congolese heritage—a powerful tribute to identity, ancestry, and the global influence of diasporic style.

Met debut & make it a moment
How is this Angela Bassett’s first Met Gala? That’s the real mystery. The actress arrived with blue velvet Burberry vengeance. The cape. The cane. The wide-brimmed hat. She looked like she was about to solve the most stylish murder mystery ever staged. The tailoring was razor sharp, and the presence? Unmatched. Consider this an open invite for next year and every year after. Messika jewels completed her look.

Bold colours, bold tailoring, and unapologetically queer
While some may interpret the vibrant shades of Chappell Roan’s Paul Tazewell-designed suit as a nod to David Bowie—more synonymous with glam rock than traditional dandyism—the look had deeper roots. Tazewell’s creation was part of a broader celebration of Black queer designers, aligning with the evening’s theme by honouring the bold self-expression and legacy of Black dandy style through a distinctly theatrical and modern lens.

Goth tailoring
Charli XCX served gothic glamour in Ann Demeulemeester. It felt like a page out of her own wardrobe diary — dark, moody, and subversively sexy. While it wasn’t a tailoring masterclass, it was Charli doing Charli. Bucherer Fine Jewellery completed her look.

Overcoat supremacy
Coco Jones wore a custom Manish Malhotra look that radiated luxury. Heavily beaded, impeccably embroidered, and anchored by a dramatic overcoat, the ensemble balanced traditional Indian opulence with modern tailoring flair. Add in the bold jewelry and you’ve got a look that demands a second (and third) look.

If Downton Abbey met Harlem Renaissance
Imaan Hammam’s ivory Magda Butrym jumpsuit was Met Gala poetry. That cane. That feathered fascinator. That Magda Butrym signature rose. Dandyism done with editorial edge. Let’s frame this look.

Wedding on top, business underneath
Keke Palmer’s Vera Wang ivory gown paired with black trousers was a marriage of silhouettes and gendered codes. It was minimal but powerful, serving high-low elegance with a wink to the tailoring theme. Anita Ko jewels completed her look.

Understated
Kendall Jenner in Torishéju was a subdued surprise. A grey skirt suit that didn’t scream for attention, but whispered tailoring elegance. It was proof that you don’t have to go big to be on theme. Subtle slay.

Oversized proportions, oversized meaning
Laura Harrier’s Gap Studio look was controversial — but it had heart. Inspired by family portraits of her father and grandfather in their Sunday best, it was an emotional tribute to Black dandyism. The wide, sculptural drape may not be universally loved, but it was art with soul. Personally, I love everything about this. She’s sold it. This pose is everything.

Issa No From Me
We usually expect magic from Christian Siriano, but Lizzo’s gown just didn’t cast the right spell. The silhouette felt awkward, the design lacked intrigue, and the overall effect didn’t flatter. We’ve seen Siriano do better. Much better. Smiling Rocks jewels completed her look.

Croc couture
Miley Cyrus looked slick in custom Alaïa by Pieter Mulier — crocodile leather jacket and matching high-waisted skirt. Thematic? You could say so. But I wanted more depth.

Really?
Natasha Lyonne usually does eccentric-chic like no other, but her McQueen moment in lavender chiffon and lace missed the tailoring brief entirely. For a house with such a tailoring legacy this was confusing.

Ancient tradition meets future fashion
Natasha Poonawalla was a walking exhibition in Manish Malhotra Couture made from two antique Parsi Gara saris — one over 100 years old. The sculptural collar, the cascade of pearls, the voluminous skirt — it was theatrical, historical, and jaw-droppingly avant-garde. A tailoring tale told through Indian craft.

Icy
Pamela Anderson wore a Tory Burch ice blue silk mesh gown, tailored from the inside out using traditional menswear techniques. It was hauntingly beautiful — like a frozen moment in fashion.

Dracula, but make it dandy
Sarah Snook rocked a custom anOnlyChild tailored coat lined in blood red. The strong shoulders, cinched waist, and brooch-laden satin bow tie made this look darkly glamorous. Count Dracula would be proud — and probably jealous.
