Menswear Red Carpet Roundup

Here’s a quick roundup of some of the guys who caught my eye on the red carpet this week.

Rami Malek: For the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ New York premiere, the actor wore a Givenchy Fall 2018 tailored plaid suit which some might think was tame by his standards, but there was plenty of sartorial elegance oozing from this look to keep me fully captivated.

Troye Sivan: The actor joined Nicole Kidman on the red carpet for the ‘Boy Erased’ LA premiere in Helmut Lang. We often have girls borrowing from the boys, but on this occasion Troye was borrowing from the girls, as this oatmeal Spring 2019 suit hails from the upcoming womenswear collection. Some might find this hard to believe as the suits sharp tailoring especially the wide lapels leans strongly in the direction of menswear, but we’ve seen many cross-overs lately.

Sam Heughan: I have a feeling that I don’t need to tell you that this suit is by Saint Laurent. The classic black and white, plus the fit and style of the suit speaks for itself.

With so many film premieres, the men were out representing on the red carpet over this last week. Here’s a look at what they’ve been wearing.

Bradley Cooper: At the ‘A Star Is Born ‘premiere during the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain on Saturday (September 29), Bradley was on his suave best in this navy Corneliani suit.

Nicholas Hoult: The actor can work a patterned dress shirt like no other, and this orange-accented one definitely pumped up his blue Prada tailoring at the premiere of ‘The Favourite’ in New York City on Friday (September 28).

Riz Ahmed: I will always love an aubergine suit, and Riz’s was an especially rich shade, with glossy Christian Louboutin loafers to polish it off at the premiere of ‘Venom’ in Westwood, California on Monday (October 1).

Menswear Red Carpet Roundup

Here is our final menswear roundup this week which sees the majority of the fellas opt out of wearing a tie.

Kelvin Harrison Jr.: Not following the dark suit trend, this was quite a strong Dolce & Gabbana look for Kelvin at the ‘Monsters and Men’ Toronto International Film Festival premiere. I just wish that the shoes weren’t black. They are such an harsh ending to a beautifully textured suit.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson: Speaking of texture, I’m marveling at the sheen coming off Aaron’s Givenchy Fall 2018 suit for the ‘Outlaw King’ Toronto International Film Festival premiere. This was perhaps the most formal look during the festival for menswear so far, but no one can accuse him of overdressing when he looks this sharp.

Chris Pine: Joining Aaron at the ‘Outlaw’ premiere, Chris was looking very debonair in his Canali suit. I know some of you aren’t huge fans of double-breasted blazers, but I love everything about this look especially the contrast of the striped brown blazer against the inky blue. We always want guys to switch things up. It appears someone is listen. Christian Louboutin’ Cousin Greg’ navy shoes completed his look.

Matt Smith In dunhill – The Late Late Show with James Corden

Matt Smith In dunhill - The Late Late Show with James Corden

Matt Smith made a guest appearance ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’ on Wednesday (August 15), where he shared that he learned of his Emmy nomination while in Russia lamenting England’s elimination from the World Cup, and what advice he’s given to ‘The Crown’ new addition Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip.

If you had said to me that Matt Smith was going to wear cinnamon dunhill suit with blue-and-cinnamon placket polo shirt, and that I was going to love it, I would’ve thought you were bantering me.

But I do. I absolutely love it.

There’s a certain retro charm to this look, along with the charismatic way in which he is wearing the suit that made this an instant hit.

Add in the fact that dunhill London represents the best of British, as does Matt Smith, and this was really a match made in fashion heaven.

Here’s a look at some of the summery style the fellas have been sporting on the red carpet this week.

Odell Beckham Jr.: Some might feel like there’s a lot going on with the graphic print Versace Spring 2019 look, leg tattoos, necklaces and blonde hair, black beard combo, but I found myself enjoying this look and all its many elements at the 2018 ESPYS. You have to have plenty of swagger to pull this off, which thankfully Odell possesses in spades.

Dominic Cooper: On the other end of the spectrum we have Dominic Cooper looking very dapper in his pale blue dunhill London suit at the ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’ London premiere. This is one of the finest summer menswear looks to date. I particular loved the cheeky red and white polka dot socks for a unexpected twist.

‘Dunkirk’ London Premiere

The ‘Dunkirk’ world premiere was held on Thursday (July 13) in London; here, a roundup of the red-carpet entrances.

Tom Hardy: Not content to resort to a standard suit for the high-profile premiere, Tom looked to Gucci for this midnight-blue three-piece ‘Monaco’ suit that featured an all-over diamond-print. With his striped tie and shirt and the contrasting pocket square, I feel as if he could have probably done without the tie clips. Christian Louboutin shoes rounded out his suave statement.

Charlotte Riley: I was thrilled to see Charlotte in the Galvan jumpsuit from the Pre-Fall 2017 collection that Shay Mitchell previously wore in a different colourway. The piece presents so much better in the singular shade, as she was modern elegance personified here—while smartly coordinating in hue with husband Tom’s midnight-blue look.

Harry Styles: Harry makes his acting debut in ‘Dunkirk,’ and he dressed to impress for his red-carpet premiere in a custom Gucci double-breasted suit that may have been tamer than his penchant for bold, colourful looks. But, it still had all of his eternally cool, sartorial nonchalance. I love how he finished the ensemble with the burgundy-red boots that were another nod to his signature style.

With the 19th annual Hollywood Film Awards hosted over the weekend on Saturday (November 1) at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, not to mention the Cinematheque Award a few days earlier, a solid set of men were out in force.

Channing Tatum
: At the Hollywood Film Awards, the actor was suitably dapper in a navy-blue Dior Homme two-button notch-lapel suit paired with a white cotton dress shirt and navy satin tie for a simple and sharp finish.

Will Smith
: Also at the Hollywood Film Awards, Will wore a black three-piece suit that likely would have looked a lot more modern had the geometric tie been an inch or two thinner.

Matthew McConaughey
: Matthew (and his buzz cut) were attired in a Dolce & Gabbana three-piece ensemble at the 29th American Cinematheque Award Honoring Reese Witherspoon at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles, California on Thursday (October 30). The real beauty of this suit was the subtle, embossed patterned effect of the suit.
