Zendaya Wore Versace To The ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Rome Photocall

Zendaya attended the photocall for Spider-Man: Brand New Day in Rome today, although the only images from the event came via her Instagram account, which she rarely updates. She may have been just as enamoured with this latest look as I was.

Up until now, this press tour has been dominated by black, leading many to speculate that the darker palette might be signalling a closing chapter for the franchise. With Zendaya and Law Roach, very little ever feels accidental, so naturally every look has invited interpretation.

Today, however, the actress stepped out wearing a Gianni Versace Fall/Winter 1997 Swarovski ensemble sourced from Rebe Archive, and it is easily the clearest visual reference to the Spider-Man franchise that we have seen during this tour.

That is not to say that I have not enjoyed the press tour so far. I have loved decoding the darker looks and searching for the smaller references embedded within them. But seeing the familiar red-and-blue palette finally appear feels especially satisfying after several appearances that deliberately avoided the obvious.

The sparkling two-piece, with its cropped top and mini skirt, also feels playful, youthful and entirely appropriate for a summer photocall in Rome during a heatwave, more so than that McQueen coat did in Amsterdam.

My only reservation lies with the white Christian Louboutin So Kate pumps. Against such a strong red-and-blue colour story, the white shoes feel disconnected from the rest of the look. A red So Kate pumps would have been the stronger choice, creating a more cohesive finish.

A Rolex timepiece completed her look.
