Greta Gerwig In Proenza Schouler – 2020 Golden Globe Awards

Greta Gerwig In Proenza Schouler - 2020 Golden Globe Awards

Greta Gerwig stunned with a modern nod to the tuxedo on the red carpet for the 2020 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (January 5) in Beverly Hills.

While the director of ‘Little Women’ has been called the “Red Carpet’s Queen of Whimsy” by Vogue for donning shades like tangerine, pink, and red, she chose a sleek and serious look for this night, wearing a custom Proenza Schouler Pre Fall 2020 design.

The designer added a white off-the-shoulder cape to the sleeveless black dress, creating the illusion of a tuxedo’s lapels.

Personally, I love this more edgy look for Greta as she seems more youthful and rebellious.

The gelled back bob and metal choker perfectly compliment the off-the-shoulder neckline and side beading of the dress.

Perhaps both Greta and I have grown tired of her usual flowy dress and soft curls combination.

Though she isn’t nominated for a Golden Globe this year, she is a winner in my book for switching up her look.

What do you think?

This is a great choice for Greta. Structured, fashionable, and layered with a few subtle moments of whimsy.

This is a nice change. Modern and edgy. The gel is a little heavy on the hair, but good look overall.

the white bandeau just floats there meaninglessly – proenza should leave the red carpet dresses to the big houses

It’s good to switch path and going to a custom made piece for an award ceremony like that. It’s her hair I don’t like. Reminds me some of bad hair days of Kristen Stewart.

Its a good change but I’m not sold.

No. I mean, the dress is OK (and better than the one in the lookbook), but the hair, make up and necklace are terrible.

Very sleek. I like it a lot. Greta is never going to be extra/showgirl/fashun type. She’s pretty classic and this dress works for her.

God! Her style is sooo boring!

I prefer this to flowy dresses as well but there’s still a big huge room to improve.

It’s not particularly exciting and I doubt it will be a memorable look at the end of the night, but I like the sharp fit, one can tell the gown is custom-made for her right away (down to the addition of the white panel that helps create a more balanced shape and silhouette for her), not a fan of the hair though.

This is so great for Greta – modern and refined. So much better than all the frumpy, matronly outfits we’ve seen her in recently. More of this, Greta!

I’m surprised she didn’t go with the lookbook version but it’s nice… maybe a different hair product tho.

That hairstyle in that length looks awkward. Slick but the hair tucked up and back would have been better.
The dress is a good middle of her going stiff director mode in buttoned up pant suits and the ladylike dresses she usually wears but without the ‘momsy’ feeling.

I like the dress for her quite a bit. Its a good change.
I don’t think she needed the choker and the greasy looking hairstyle will never be my thing.

I like it. This is a big change for her and I applaud the decision to try something new. I can’t decide if I like the dress with or without the white. It feels little pilgrim-y but it adds some interest. Not sure.

I don’t think this dress works on her, I find the off shoulder addition too boxy looking.

Chic, but in the grand scheme of the event, it falls flat. I don’t like how severe the hemline is.

No, this is just not a good look for her. It’s hard and terribly aging.

  21. Guest January 6, 2020 at 12:07 am #

For her standards, this is one of the best I’ve seen her look but this kind of black and white design has been done to death already.

    Chic!
