Oscar Night: The Ones We Missed

Posted by Heather Cichowski

As awards season proper wrapped up with the 2019 Oscars, we cannot go before reflecting on some of the looks from Sunday (February 24) from the awards ceremony and the Vanity Fair Oscar Party that we didn’t have a chance to discuss yet.

Julia Roberts: Her monochromatic M.O. was forgotten about completely in this vivacious hot pink Elie Saab gown with coordinating sandals. The waterfall drapery on the side works with the asymmetrical neckline beautifully.

Nina Dobrev: Some will likely get a bridal spirit from the actress’s Brock Collection look from the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. There are some intriguing elements, but the black bag is too jarring against the prim piece.

Lady Gaga: She proudly posed with her statue in Brandon Maxwell and the same Tiffany necklace from the main event. It was a great repeat move because the statement jewels balanced the dramatic flare of the skirt.

Sarah Hyland: The ‘Modern Family’ actress struck a tall pose in Zac Posen. The contrasting earrings help create a summery vibe. It’s too bad the clean line of the skirt is interrupted by the pooling hem.

Chloe and Halle Bailey: The sister act put on a coordinated front in Versace Fall 2019. The sexy bondage looks coordinate without becoming comical. Crucially, they also stand on their own.

Julianne Hough: Surprisingly, my initial reaction to this J. Mendel gown wasn’t that of fatigue. It was that it would have better suited someone with darker hair.

Julia is radiant in this shade and the cut is appealing too.

I agree Nina is bridal (and a bit stiff) but beautiful.

Gaga’s dress is fine but a bit forgettable for such a big night personally for her.

As you said Sarah’s hem should have been better but what really spoils this beautiful dress and jewel combo is the messy hair.

The Baileys and I do not share the same fashion taste generally, but I can’t appreciate these looks for this event especially.

Julianne I’m guessing the bodice was too tight or she needed an undergarment because it’s not flattering.

    Julia and Nina look good.

Nina is giving me Audrey Hepburn vibes. Love it.

Julias is ok. Its mostly because of the color.

Nobody else. I know the Bailey sisters keep trying the edgier looks but I just don’t think it suits them at all. Maybe they have to grow into it. But it just doesn’t seem authentic.

Juliannes is a hideous color, I can see her panties, and the weird squashed boob outline is unflattering.

Now everyone should be happy….I liked Julia’ look a lot, pink looks great on her. I like Sarah’ colours as well. I worry for Chloe & Halle sometimes, I prefer Halle’ look here. I wonder why Gaga took this approach for this night, both dresses were so dark and gloomy(and I love black), though this one was better

I really like Julia and Nina’s outfits but I wish Julia would go back to brunette and Nina had selected a smaller, complementary clutch.

Julia looks great in pink. Nothing else here really grabs me.

Julia looked stunning. Nina does not. That dress is awful.

Gaga and Sarah are a snoozefest.

Those Versace’s on the Baileys are horrid. Just don’t like the J Mendel dress; think it’s the color.
