It was two school nights out in a row for young Elle Fanning, who joined Blake Lively, Diane Kruger and Alexa Chung on the red carpet last night for the Chanel Fine Jewelry’s 80th anniversary of the ‘Bijoux De Diamants’ collection created by Gabrielle Chanel in New York City yesterday evening.
She wore a black velvet dress with a grey collar from the Chanel Fall 2012 Couture collection.
I’m sure you are as surprised as I am that this is considered Couture.
The button-down look is too costumey for me and that isn’t because of the inclusion of the hat.
In fact the hat is the best part of this look.
A side-swept braid, rosy cheeks and a pink lip colour provided the finishing touches.

This and the Gaga look below – is Pilgrim chic a look now? Goes to show people will wear anything with a Chanel label in it.
“Pilgrim” I was looking for one word to describe this look…thank you…sums it up perfectly.
So true. Never been a fan of Chanel.
The first word I thought was “pilgrim” as well… not a good look. She needs a new stylist who knows how old she is.
gobble gobble…beyond awful.
LOL. Pilgrim chic indeed.
I give her props for trying new looks and starting it young. Sure having fun with fashion is great but this is too drab. I can’t.
The word “crime” also comes to mind. Just horrible
it definitely does have a coco-pilgrim hybrid aspect to it, but i think it works because she’s so young.
the dress is lovely but the whole look on elle seems terribly costumey.
Too dark for her!
I’m going to go ahead and just say it. I hate almost everything this girl wears, this included. She either picks ugly 70s inspired looks, puts together ensembles that don’t make sense, or wears outfits that are more catered to a senior citizen than a teenager. It’s harsh but that’s my opinion.
For example, I like this dress, but the way it’s been thrown together just does not work.
I male allowances only because she’s young, but this is a fashion crime. Is already Halloween? Terrible. And this is not couture.
I *make* allowances.
I really love her but I am struggling to remember any of her looks that I like, They all seem dated and ugly, frankly. This look does nothing for her and teh shoes are ATROCOUS.
I don’t like this at all.
She looks like a blonde Wednesday Addams – not good. I know she is young but a pair of heels might have helped this unflattering look.
Oh, let’s not judge her too harshly–perhaps she’s in a special production of “Little Orphan Elle” or better yet, “Olivia!” the female version of Oliver.
