Celebrities at the ‘Victorian Psycho’ Cannes Film Festival Photocall & Screening

Ruth Wilson, Maika Monroe, and Evie Templeton were in Cannes for the photocall and screening of their upcoming film, Victorian Psycho.

Photocall

Ruth Wilson, as you know, is one of my favourite quirky dressers, and at first glance this appeared to be a simple yellow V-neck JW Anderson dress. But once you look closer at the skirt, you realise the sculptural volume is actually created using the back of a blazer, which instantly makes the look far more interesting.

This is exactly the sort of offbeat fashion twist Ruth wears so well, because she never approaches these conceptual pieces with any sense of self-consciousness.

Maika Monroe also leaned into sculptural dressing wearing a McQueen Fall 2026 white floral lace dress layered beneath sheer ice-blue organza.

The structured cups and exaggerated hip construction gave the look a sharper fashion edge, while the delicate floral lace softened the overall mood. There was something ghostly and romantic about this look which felt light and airy for a daytime Cannes photocall, which is exactly what I always want.

I love seeing young actresses dress their age, and this Rodarte Fall 2025 floral dress was the perfect choice for 17-year-old Evie Templeton.

Between the soft ruffle collar, sheer layers, and flowing silhouette, the look had a youthful romanticism which felt completely appropriate without veering into anything overly precious.

Screening

While I’m here for the complex silhouette – a Ruth Wilson speciality – of this Erdem Fall 2026 pleated black gown, I’m still adjusting to seeing Ruth in black.

The dramatic sculptural construction feels entirely in her wheelhouse, but the darker palette gives the look a much moodier energy than we usually associate with her red carpet style. Then again, for a film titled Victorian Psycho, that shift made perfect sense.

Maika Monroe wore a red Dilara Findikoglu Spring 2026 dress to the Victorian Psycho Cannes Film Festival screening.

Two things need to work when you are wearing Dilara Fındıkoğlu: you need edge, and the styling has to fully commit to the mood.

Unfortunately, Maika Monroe doesn’t quite have the Milena Smit, Emma Corrin, Doja Cat, Hari Nef, or Anya Taylor-Joy intensity that I associate with selling a Dilara look like this red Spring 2026 dress.

The Jimmy Choo Faya pumps were an intriguing choice, echoing the distressed detailing of the dress, but I needed a slicked-back hairstyle and far more attitude to really bring this look to life. She doesn’t look bad in this dress by any means; I’m just not fully buying into it.
