Penelope Cruz Wore Chanel To ‘La Bola Negra’ Cannes Film Festival Photocall

Penelope Cruz was back promoting La Bola Negra during the Cannes Film Festival at the photocall this afternoon.

We were all glad that the Spanish actress finally gave us a personal best in Chanel on the red carpet last night for the premiere, but there were still plenty of “Why did it have to be black?” comments from some of you.

And, naturally, her go-to colour returned for the daytime photocall, where she wore a look from the Chanel Resort 2027 collection.

A Resort – or Cruise – collection is always going to feel at home on the Riviera, and there is a relaxed ease to this ruffled black dress, accented by the black-and-white Chanel scarf tied at the waist. I also love that she kept the oversized statement necklace from the runway styling, because it gives the look a stronger fashion focus rather than letting it drift into something too safe or understated.

That said, I can’t help feeling slightly frustrated that she didn’t opt for Look 7 instead: the ivory silk design with black trim and the same scarf detail. It felt far more suited to a sun-drenched afternoon photocall and would have brought a fresher energy to the occasion.

Still, at this point, I’ll take my Penelope Cruz Chanel wins wherever I can get them, because this is another outing that works for her. Even the two-tone shoes worked surprisingly well here.
