Dior’s Academy Museum Gala Looks: From Haute Couture To Ripped Jeans
The Academy Museum Gala is one of the biggest fashion events of the autumn, but its primary purpose is fundraising to support the museum’s exhibitions, educational programmes and preservation of cinema history.

A Romantic Return
Taylor Swift, who performed during the evening, wore a light blue pleated silk Dior dress embellished with an embroidered bow, inspired by look 47 from the Spring 2027 collection.
After her more directional look at the VMAs, this felt like a return to the romantic silhouettes she has always favoured. I know some of you are screaming at the hair, but I love how the soft curls complement the dress and its delicate detailing.

A Work Of Art
Greta Lee wore a white silk chiffon Dior Fall 2026 Haute Couture dress, previously presented at the ‘Dior: Grammar of Forms’ exhibition.
What makes this particularly interesting is the collection’s connection to American sculptor Lynda Benglis, whose work inspired Jonathan Anderson’s exploration of fabric that appears suspended in motion. The cascading sequin fringe and frayed edges echo that idea, while the oversized eucalyptus flower introduces a botanical element. It’s an interesting meeting of sculpture and couture, and one that feels especially suited to Greta’s adventurous approach to fashion.
Greta accessorised with Aquazzura So Nude sandals, Tiffany & Co. Bird on a Rock earrings, a yellow diamond bracelet and a tsavorite ring.

Vintage Romance
There is something distinctly vintage about Grace Gummer’s pastel green and gold silk Dior dress, particularly the soft draping and muted metallic finish, which recall the romantic evening dresses of the 1920s and 1930s. I love that it feels nostalgic without looking dated.

Understated Elegance
Mia Goth opted for a more understated approach in a black silk Dior dress embellished with an embroidered bow. Dior fine jewellery and a matching bag completed her look.

The Overcoat Effect
Drew Starkey demonstrated just how much an overcoat can elevate classic tailoring, wearing a black-and-white silk coat from Dior Summer 2027 over a black peak-lapel tuxedo.
The contrast gives an otherwise traditional evening look a contemporary edge, while the white bow tie and black cummerbund maintain its formality. Black leather derbies completed the look.

Wrong Occasion
Unfortunately, Guitarricadelafuente lost me with the ripped jeans. There is a time and a place, and the Academy Museum Gala was neither. I appreciate the attempt to approach formalwear differently, but the jeans made this feel far too casual for the occasion.
