Ayo Edebiri Wore Chanel To The ‘Ella McCay’ LA Premiere
Ayo Edebiri attended the world premiere of Ella McCay at the El Capitan Theatre in LA on Tuesday, and usually, this would be the moment where the Ayo–Chanel relationship gives us something fresh to talk about considering the recent Pre-Fall 2026 collection.

But… not today.
I’ve genuinely enjoyed watching her settle into her ambassador era. The debut needed some fine-tuning, but the looks that followed had clarity, confidence and a sense of play that suited her.
However, I simply can’t get behind this Chanel Pre-Fall 2026 look. And that’s hard for me to say, because I actually preferred Matthieu Blazy’s Pre-Fall 2026 collection to his Spring 2026 outing. I was excited — very excited — to see these pieces start appearing on red carpets. So to see this particular look pulled for Ayo, when the collection is full of stronger, more distinctive options, hurts my soul a little bit.
The outfit lands in that space I can only describe as “artistically chic, off-duty creative who got a last-minute invitation to a premiere.” There’s an idea in there somewhere — a kind of art-school elegance, maybe even a nod to unbothered luxury — but on the red carpet or a premiere, it doesn’t quite translate for me. If the intention was to lean into that undone mood, jeans and a T-shirt honestly would have landed with more conviction.
Ayo has the charisma to carry bolder Chanel moments — we’ve already seen her do it. Which is why this one feels a little deflating. Not disastrous, just nowhere near what she’s capable of.
