Tessa Thompson Wore Diotima To The Critics’ Choice Association’s 8th Annual Celebration of Black Cinema & Television
Tessa Thompson collected the Actress Award for her work in Hedda at the Critics Choice Association’s 8th Annual Celebration of Black Cinema & Television in LA last night.

She wore a two-piece look from the Diotima Spring 2026 collection: the Marigot velvet-trimmed knit top — a piece we recently saw in grey on Greta Lee — paired with a bold red textured cocoon midi skirt that carries all the architectural punch Diotima is known for.

I know we regularly encourage celebrities to remix runway styling, but in this case I would have been furious if Tessa had diluted the look by swapping in the matching pink-and-black velvet-trimmed skirt. This sculptural silhouette is exactly the kind of territory where she thrives. It demands presence, confidence, and a willingness to stand out — qualities Tessa has in abundance and why so few others would even attempt this, let alone succeed.

And then there’s the footwear. Karla Welch has a long, loyal relationship with a black shoe, and to be fair, a black mule would have made sense considering the trim. But the pink pair was the more playful path.
This was bold, imaginative, and beautifully considered — the kind of red carpet choice that reminds us why her fashion reputation is so celebrated by us all.
Stylist: Karla Welch.
