With Venice Film Festival winding down, Toronto Film Festival is wasted no time giving us a red carpet switch-up courtesy of Elle Fanning at the Sentimental Value premiere.

Elle is our modern fairytale princess a film festival usually serving up floaty gowns, tulle, and the kind of sparkle that could light up a Disney castle. But this? This was something else.

Dressed in Valentino Resort 2026, Elle stepped away from whimsy into modern minimalism with a one-sleeved gathered top and black maxi skirt. On paper, it’s straightforward, but in reality it felt like a refreshing reset — a move that showed she doesn’t need tulle or sparkle to command the red carpet.

But the real surprise? Alessandro Michele proving he can do minimalism. The Italian designer, usually devoted to maximalism, stripped it all back.
