Rihanna hosted a cocktail party to celebrate the debut of much anticipated clothing line Fenty, and the opening of her exclusive ephemeral Fenty boutique in Paris on Wednesday (May 22).
This is a huge deal for Rihanna. Not only is she the first woman to helm a luxury brand at LVMH, Black or otherwise, she is also the youngest.
It would appear that a lot of people are confused by this label.
Most are wary of the price points saying that $224 for a t-shirt is too expensive, but considering this is a luxury brand, are we really surprised?
This isn’t a Rihanna x Boohoo collection, where she has attributed her name to stock already in the warehouse.
This is a brand that will stand alongside the likes of Stella McCartney, Celine and Raf Simons in luxury department stores.
While I love the strong lean into tailoring for this debut collection, I have to admit I was expecting two things:
1. For this collection to be more sporty, feminine luxe in a similar vein to Off-White, and
2. To like it more.
I know a lot of people will go into auto-like mode because it’s Rihanna. but browsing the lookbook, the only thing I see myself in are the blazers, especially the pink one.
The rest appears a little to boxy for my personal style.
Even the dress Rihanna wore for the event didn’t excite me.
It’s not a bad collection, I was just expecting to be swept off my feet.
