Zendaya Coleman In Tommy Hilfiger – 2019 Met Gala

Zendaya Coleman In Tommy Hilfiger - 2019 Met Gala

There are many princess moments on the red carpet but Zendaya Coleman transformed the pink carpet at the 2019 Met Gala on Monday (May 6) in New York City into a page out of a story book.

The actress left no detail out as she morphed into Cinderella in the spirit of camp.

She brought magic, a lost glass slipper and a striking Tommy Hilfiger gown.

The blue dress stayed true to the original in many aspects but the additions of supersized white puff sleeves and an illuminated design brought the over-the-top drama the evening demanded.

I love Zendaya, Camp Princess. The way the sleeves rise and the waist expands was amazing live. I think the people who missed her and Law (her stylists) full red carpet presentation are the only ones crying about Claire imitation. Mentioning Claire is missing the point. She’s shedding the Disney Princess label.

So they just knocked off Claire Danes’ Zac Posen dress and completely ignored the theme and went with Disney princesses instead. Ok.

Ummmm, I LOVED this. I feel like that similar looks have been done to death adds more – not less – texture to the campiness. Plus, sure, a hundred white women have modeled themselves after Cinderella, but it’s at least a bit subversive to see Zendaya playing with the princess-iest of princess tropes. It totally worked for me.

This is a disappointment tbh. The dress is pretty ugly and just a cheap reinvention of Claire’s dress

I’m sorry but Claire Danes did this way better. Sad, it looks like a cheap copycat.

The red carpet theatrics were incredible, but the dress itself is pretty safe.

This isn’t what I had in mind or really wanted from her. But it is very fun and kitsch.

Camp perfection! Disney, Cinderella & lights, what’s not to love?

This looks rather cheap, like an school project.

Zac Posen did really well, Claire Danes dress looked professionally done.

A disappointment. I had very high expectations for her. This has been done before by Clare Danes some few met galas ago. This is a misstep for her.

Very cheap and tacky! Why, Zendaya?!?

  12. Guest May 7, 2019 at 5:03 am #

Ummm…why did she dress up as Cinderella? The theme wasn’t Disney princess. And I expected so much more from Zendaya. I’m so disappointed.

True. Plus Cinderalla-inspired dress has been done to death!

    Claire Danes did it better

Okay the light up dress has been done before and this one is an ugly dress but the whole entrance was so campy with Jude Law that I end up liking the whole effect. This is campy/corny taken to the extreme.

Its just too Disney. Its flawless but so not feeling it for this evenings theme.
    Its a Disney costume….
And yes, its just too comparable to Claires look (which was amazing) and so kind of takes the luster out of it.

I absolutely loved her theatrics and drama on the redcarpet, but was overall underwhelmed by the dress itself. As others have mentioned, it’s reminiscent of Claire Danes Cinderella look, which I much preferred.

It was so much fun to watch them on redcarpet but that was about it. Claire Danes was epic, unforgettable.

I feel like I should like it, and she looks pretty, but this is way too Disney fairy tale.

  18. Guest May 7, 2019 at 4:10 am #

the dress itself is quite ugly…

    • Guest May 7, 2019 at 4:13 am #

Ugly dress indeed. Claire Danes did this but 100X times

  19. Guest May 7, 2019 at 4:07 am #

This is really similar to Claire Danes in 2016.

This is a pretty safe take on Camp; I was expecting Z to take more risk.

But she looks so damn perfect that she’s one of my favorites of the night anyway.
