The 2019 Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards hosted on Thursday (February 21) in Los Angeles, California, was very much a LBD-free zone.   Here is a look as the many stars who joined Kiki Layne on the red carpet.

Laura Harrier: The ‘BlacKkKlansman’ was working a Victor Glemaud Fall 2019 look which marries the zestiness of Spring with the richness of Fall. Jimmy Choo ‘Romy’ pumps rounded out the look perfectly.

Trevor Jackson: The invite didn’t say “no boys allowed,” so the singer hit the red carpet showcasing his sartorial sharpness in Etro.

Robin Givens: One of my favourite movies is ‘Boomerang,’ so Robin Givens will always have a place in my heart. That place was slightly in jeopardy when I saw the length of her Roland Mouret Charlesworth jumpsuit.

Chloe Bailey and Halle Bailey: The sisters both wore fan-pleated looks from Maison Armine Ohanyan. While I prefer the iridescent lavender hue of Halle’s look, the nude underlay has a feeling of exposed spanx. Halle styled her look with Brian Atwood’s Madison platforms and Dena Kemp jewels, while Chloe kept her blue dress in focus with Sam Edelman’s Yaro PVC sandals.

Kelly Rowland: The singer was not to be missed in this magenta Keti Chkhikvadze frock.

Amandla Stenberg: We’re used to strong style statements from Amandla, but the suit after suit run has me longing for something new. This Ellery Pre-Fall 2019 suit isn’t bad, but it feels really out of touch with this lively red carpet. I miss her sense of fun.

Skai Jackson: The young actress was presenting the total opposite wearing a playful look from Rebecca Vallance (coat) and Lisou’s polka dot dress.

Regina Hall: The actress made an ethereal statement in Reem Acra’s Spring 2019 dusky pink cape accented dress.

Marsai Martin: I love everything about this Alice + Olivia look. Fun, age-appropriate and fierce. For someone so young, her style continues to speak volumes.

Regina King: With a huge weekend ahead of her, the ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’ actress opted for a casual chic look from L’Agence consisting of a flaming Chamberlain blazer, Nina blouse and Samira trousers.

Cynthia Erivo: I would’ve been really into this Each x Other Resort 2019 orange lace dress without the blazer.

Angela Bassett: The actress has been favouring suits of late, but on this occasion she opted for an ’80s inspired Greta Constantine Spring 2019 dress styled with an Etro floral clutch, Alexis Bittar jewels and Casadei sandals. Are the power shoulders throwing you off this look?

Logan Browning: The ‘Dear White People’ actress wore a Missoni dress defined by layers of fringes.

Janet Mock: Gorgeous in gingham, the TV host looks ready for Spring in her Prabal Gurung Resort 2019 dress.

Yvonne Orji: I was excited to see Walk Of Shame on the red carpet having recently previewed the collection at their showroom. I love the luxe mix of wool and silk, plus the burnt orange hue is perfect for the current season. Schutz sandals completed her look along with a hip-length braided braids.
