2018 BET Awards Red Carpet Roundup

The BET Awards is always likely to showcase some unique looks.  This host of gorgeous girls, who joined Janelle Monae and Storm Reid, didn’t let us down at Sunday’s event.

Serayah McNeill: I love this gold lame Alice McCall Fall 2018 ‘Le Petite’ top paired with ‘The Future Is Female’ skirt, mostly for the sculptural skirt. Where Serayah lost me was trying to match her hair colour to the outfit. Established Jewelry, EFFY Jewelry, Graziela Gems and Sara Weinstock jewels completed her look, along with Giuseppe Zanotti sandals.

Ashanti: I’ve always admired Ashanti of not playing it safe, but this Annakiki Fall 2018 look would’ve worked better for me if it was another colour, another fabric and just an inch or two longer. This piece was actually presented with a pencil skirt on the runway, but that would’ve been overkill here.

77th Annual Peabody Awards Red Carpet Roundup

There were a number of beauties at the 77th Annual Peabody Awards on Saturday (May 19) in New York City. They joined Rachel Brosnahan.

Yvonne Orji: The ‘Insecure’ actress opted for sophisticated separates. She wore a Naeem Khan blazer, Carmen Marc Valvo trousers, a Theory top and Calvin Klein shoes. The interplay of textures is exciting, but it still presents a harmonious finish thanks to the monochromatic colour palette and swirling lines.

Alexis Bledel: Making a statement in bright colour, the ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ actress was outfitted in Red Valentino. With so much going on, she was wise to stick with black accessories but the heavy boots are too harsh against the look and too casual for the event.

Issa Rae: Shimmering in Thom Browne, she showed a flirty side. Festooned with feathers, as opposed to fringing, increased the ethereal romance. The way the trim seamlessly blends with the silver metallic fabric shows a deft hand.

2018 NAACP Image Awards Red Carpet Roundup

There were many more beauties—and bold looks—in the mix at the 2018 NAACP Image Awards on Monday (January 15) in Pasadena, California.

Logan Browning: The actress channeled her softer side in a Maria Lucia Hohan ballet-pink gown with lace accents. I like the feminine, romantic quality of the design, but also the modern edge she brought to it with metallic accents including the belt and spherical clutch.

Marsai Martin: High-low gowns are nothing new, but this Pantora Mini design was rendered in such a vibrant shade of emerald green that it made a statement with the fun and frills appropriate for the young ‘Black-ish’ starlet.

2018 Golden Globe Awards Parties

The 2018 Golden Globe Awards were a study in many glamorous renditions of the colour black. And, for the most part, the Globes after parties followed suit with the hue taking on all measures of late-night allure.

Diane Kruger: After a regally glamorous entrance at the Globes, Diane was at the InStyle and Warner Bros. post-party, where she imbued black, cropped trousers with a bit of creamy lace in this Alexander McQueen Spring 2018 ensemble. I have a feeling that the tattered, asymmetrical effect of the lace bustier top will turn some away from the more experimental look.

Tessa Thompson: At HBO’s official after party in LA, Tessa suited up in an Alexandre Vauthier Fall 2017 Couture menswear-inspired look that delivered plenty of intriguing edge when styled with the MATEO jewelry and bauble-accented sandals. I was happy for the sheer shirting underneath to balance the boxier shape of the tuxedo blazer.

Nina Dobrev: The actress flaunted her toned abs at the InStyle party in this Ralph Lauren cutout gown. Even with the futuristic liquid-silver paneling, something about the look read a bit dated. Alexis Bittar choker completed her look.

HFPA and Instyle Celebration of the 2018 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Roundup

Many more style darlings were at the HFPA and Instyle Celebration of the 2018 Golden Globe Awards on Wednesday (November 15) in West Hollywood, California.

Serinda Swan: This Styland ensemble brought every bit of smoldering sizzle we’d expect from a hot-red gown except manifested in a suit, and I loved every minute of it—especially with the matching red lip and handbag.

Andrea Riseborough:
The event saw Andrea reinvent her look again, as she rocked a new Galaxina hairstyle with an equally galactic metallic jumpsuit. Directional makeup and decorative wrist cuffs completed the look that may split the vote—but I think we can all agree that there will be no boredom with this punchy, experimental look.

Olivia Culpo: Some may fault the visible cups underneath this Monique Lhuillier Spring 2018 gown. But, the wispy beauty of the tulle and its glinting embellishment had a sense of enchantment, regardless.

‘Insecure’ Premiere Season 2

HBO celebrated the Season 2 premiere of ‘Insecure’ on Saturday (July 15) in Inglewood, California with actress Yvonne Orji and executive producer and star Issa Rae in attendance.

Yvonne Orji: Donning a darling Alice and Olivia embroidered mini, Yvonne didn’t play it safe with her footwear. Instead, she wore electric, tangerine Stuart Weitzman sandals to further brighten the palette of the dress.

Issa Rae: We’ve previously seen this Monse Spring 2017 off-the-shoulder, wrap-effect top on Emily Ratajkowski. But, I will not argue with a second showing of the cool, striped piece that offers a modern vision of classic shirting. Plus, I love the more casual spirit of Issa’s look with her faded, cropped denim and navy sandals.
