Solange Knowles In Thom Browne – 2017 Met Gala

Solange Knowles was one of many I was looking forward to seeing at the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1).

Some might see a singer in a puffy coat with a train, I see a woman wearing Thom Browne who interpreted the theme correctly sans all the bells and whistles we saw in Rihanna’s look.

Solange brand of avant-garde dressing was cool and measured with a quiet rebellious spirit.

I’m going to give her extra points for her own interpretation of Rei Kawakubo’s blunt bob.

The look was styled with a Mark Cross bag.

Hideous! I usually love her style but this is just silly.

I had my highest hopes for Solange to bring the theme. Its on theme….but I do not like it. Its a puffy coat….she could of done much much better esp with her avant garde arsenal.

Tragic. Worst (/one of the) dressed of the event. Is she going shopping on a rainy fall day?

It´s like a tuxedo look for Solange. She was on theme and looking completely different than anybody else. I really like it and I love that she goes on to the rhythm of her own drums.

She’s in theme, but I feel this falls flat. I expected much more from her.

    Better than Gisele though

I totally agree with you FC. She , much like Comme des Garcons, is chalenging the standard concepts of beauty and wearability.
    Total winner for the occasion.

I’m onboard. Rei Kawakubo has always challenged what people consider as beautiful and I love that Solange went this route. I really love the shoes also.

    Unfortunately, this is a no.

This is on theme but that is it. There is try hard to get attention in a sexy way (see Beyonce in 2015 for example) and try hard to be a fashion intellectual and both approaches can get old fast. In many outfits, of which this is one, Solange tends to be in the “look at me I am avant garde and a fashion intellectual camp” at the expense of actually looking good.

I agree J. I was expecting Solange to go into the CDG archives and pick something interesting but groovily wearable, but she chose a plastic pretentious thing.

    oh please….this is ridiculous.

Just no. This is so ugly I just can’t begin to say on how many levels I dislike it. I’ll just point out that you can be on theme in so many different ways, some good, some bad… and this is one of the bad ones.

You can still be on theme like Rihanna, this is just not acceptable. Theme or not, it’s still a Gala.

    I’m torn.
Yes, she is on the theme, one the few, but still, it’s a bit ridiculous. Looks like she’s stuck in her sleeping bag.
