2017 Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards Gala

The 28th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards Gala was held at the Palm Springs Convention Center on January 2, 2017 in Palm Springs, California, where a host of stars got the year started in style.

Kirsten Dunst: The actress glistening wearing a custom Ralph & Russo Couture gown, however, I had a craving for something to really make this look pop more—even brushing her hair back might have done the job to show off those statement earrings.

Ruth Negga: A newcomer on the scene, Ruth Negga had a princess moment in her whimsically embroidered Valentino Spring 2017 gown, which featured a fanciful innocence despite the sheer transparency factor.

Nicole Kidman: I certainly appreciate Nicole’s willingness to colour outside the lines with her style choices. And she did just that in Palm Springs, where she donned a Christian Dior Spring 2017 tulle dress that featured an artsy, tarot card drawing of L’Amoureaux. The look had its own sort of romance—of a very quirky sort—which she completed with medieval curls, a choker, and a red lip. Did I love it? No. But you have to give it to Nicole for fearlessly taking on the look.

Octavia Spencer: Her love for Tadashi Shoji is still going strong, yet with this look, I found much distraction in the white shirting. I would have loved to see the top half reflect the rich navy and ruby hues of the beautiful tapestry ball gown skirt.

Amy Adams: I was immediately drawn to the actress’s Altuzarra Pre-Fall 2017 gown. From afar, it may have not looked so significant. But, up close, the level of detail behind the explosion of miniature flowers strewn across it was lovely, as was the way the light caught the kaleidoscope of colour patterns in the dress.

Natalie Portman: The expectant actress covered up her baby bump in a Christian Dior midnight navy gown, which was elegantly subdued. Her sapphire earrings, on the other hand, added much-needed sparkle to the look.

Janelle Monae: In keeping with her signature colour palette of black and white, the singer wore a Jenny Packham Spring 2017 gown that was reminiscent of a stylized version of Tetris. The dress did feature gold piping which explains the rationale for her version of a tiara woven throughout her updo. All the optical illusion of this look was a bit too much for the eye, though.
