2016 National Board of Review

The National Board of Review Gala was hosted on January 4, 2017 in New York City and attended by a namedrop-worthy guest list.

Maggie Gyllenhaal: Graphic playfulness and an asymmetrical silhouette kept the actress’s Marni Resort 2017 dress fresh, but I would have loved to see a thin belt to provide some waist contouring.

Naomie Harris: Taking the plunge, Naomie nixed a dress in favour of a Brandon Maxwell Spring 2017 wide-leg jumpsuit that moved beautifully when she walked.

Amy Adams: Lovely in lace, the actress wore a Marchesa Pre-Fall 2017 embroidered dress that ultimately left me with the urge to cut off the bell sleeves while also securing a more nude underlining for the bodice.

Greta Gerwig: Unfortunately, this Prada gown reminded me of why Prada can be problematic on the red carpet. It just resonated completely wrong—from the heavy rust-hued velvet to the distracting embellishment. The styling did it not favours either, with Greta’s lip colour and makeup providing a clashing, washed-out counterpoint. This gown was best viewed from the back, as the scoop cut-out saved it a bit.

Riley Keough: I couldn’t help but wonder how much better (and sexier) this exposed corset, body-con Dolce & Gabbana dress would have been without the clownish bow ties.
