Gong Li In Roberto Cavalli – 2015 Met Gala

Gong Li In Roberto Cavalli - 2015 Met Gala

Gong Li attended the ‘China: Through The Looking Glass’ 2015 Met Gala on Monday (May 4) in New York City as one of the co-hosts of the night.

She totally nailed the theme wearing a cheongsam-inspired Roberto Cavalli velvet lace gown with intricate lace embroidery which infused a sensual allure into the look.

If you are having a mild case of déjà vu, that maybe because of Taylor Swift’s Roberto Cavalli Atelier gown which also had the party at the back.

I find the back too busy, but like the idea. And that must be uber-praise for Cavalli.

Roberto Cavalli dresses always look like a hot mess and this is no exception.

Gorgeous dress! Love the velvet. My only quibble is I wish the dip in the back was symmetrical. But this is lovely and of course on theme.

  7. Guest April 22, 2019 at 9:07 pm #

She slays it. Already best dress of the night for me.

  8. Guest April 22, 2019 at 9:07 pm #

Something seems missing. I like the back and the color but it still seems meh.

The only thing that I like about this dress is the sleeves. Don’t like the color or the material for this time of year even if it a black tie event.

+1, I couldn’t believe it either, lol. Too bad, because otherwise it is one of the better looks — which isn’t saying much based on what I have seen so far.

Velvet??? Its springtime! 82 degrees in NYC today. It was the longest winter ever here. Velvet??? Certainly in theme, but I’m baffled.

I much prefer the fabric and cut of Taylor Swift’s Cavalli, although the dragon trope might be too tiredsome to be trotted out at the Met.

So, a combination of Gong Li’s back embellishment and Taylor Swift’s flow (embellishment spread across the whole of the gown rather than just the back), cut & fabric.

I like the gown from the front but from the back not so much. The earrings don’t really work, imo.

Do you remember when she played the Empress on the Curse of the Golden Flower? She was like a goddess on that movie. I expected much more from her :/

I don’t love this but on-theme and a clean and tidy look just overall.

gong li, true actress. not bad for a 49 year old. but again Carina Lau is 49 this year too

Gong looks great, but I am disappointed she didn’t support a Chinese designer. Roberto Cavalli is not the right brand for her majesty; Gong Li is China’s Cate Blanchett.

Love it too. But then again she is Chinese so she must feel at ease with the theme 🙂

    Beautiful

  23. Guest April 22, 2019 at 9:07 pm #

Same. She’s an empress, pretty much. She deserved more than this.
