Jodie Turner-Smith Channels Grace Jones in Mugler at the Academy Museum Gala

Jodie Turner-Smith attended the 2026 Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday, and as we’ve come to expect from her, blending into the crowd was never going to be an option.

Wearing a Mugler Spring 2027 look by Miguel Castro Freitas, Jodie delivered a moment that immediately brought Grace Jones to mind. Between the exaggerated shoulders, sharply sculpted peplum and extraordinary headpiece, the resemblance to Jones’ fearless approach to fashion is impossible to ignore.

The brown-and-lilac zebra print, created in collaboration with artist Naturalia, is striking enough on its own, but I love how the matching headpiece takes this look somewhere entirely different.

What makes this work for me is Jodie’s ability to wear something this theatrical without appearing remotely overwhelmed by it. The headpiece partially obscures her face, the silhouette is anything but conventional, and yet she looks completely at ease.

The matching gloves and Aurora bag continue the print from head to knee, while the white Christian Louboutin pumps offer a welcome contrast, even with the brown-and-lilac zebra print on the heels and toe caps.

I’ve always loved Jodie’s willingness to embrace fashion’s more adventurous side, and this is another reminder of why she’s one of the most exciting women to watch on the red carpet.

We’re all just waiting for someone to greenlight that Grace Jones biopic, because there’s only one woman I want to see play her.

And can you imagine that press tour? I have goosebumps just thinking about what Jodie and Law Roach could create together.
