Brad Pitt Tries to Dress Up Double Denim

Brad Pitt attended The Heart of the Beast photocall during the San Sebastián International Film Festival in Spain today.

The actor continued his rugged streak with a double-denim look that is not only on brand for Brad, but also feels connected to the film he is promoting.

But I’m going back and forth on this one.

The Umit Benan Kevin denim jacket and jeans, paired with John Varvatos Regent Harness suede ankle boots, make perfect sense. The ruggedness fits The Heart of the Beast, so there is nothing about the foundation of this look that gives me pause.

It’s the pink-and-white striped shirt and tie that have me undecided.

I can see what they were trying to do. A photocall means meeting the international press, so perhaps something a little smarter was called for, with the shirt and tie serving as the compromise. But can you really dress up double denim? Or, more importantly, do you need to?

On the one hand, I like the unexpectedness of the pink against the blue denim. On the other, I keep imagining this look with a simple T-shirt underneath and thinking that would have sufficed.

This is one I need you to settle for me. Does the shirt and tie make the double denim more interesting, or would you have kept the styling casual?
