Daisy Edgar-Jones Embraces Method Dressing for ‘Sense and Sensibility’
Daisy Edgar-Jones attended the Sense and Sensibility world premiere, held at ODEON Luxe Leicester Square on Tuesday in London.
From the start of this press tour to her appearance at the event celebrating her Vogue cover, there were signs that Daisy was going to embrace method dressing, and you won’t be surprised to hear that I am here for it.
Her custom Vivienne Westwood dress certainly sets the tone. The champagne satin, draped neckline and shoulder ties have a period sensibility that feels connected to the world of Sense and Sensibility without becoming too literal.
I can’t say I love the random gathered detail at the hemline, which interrupts what could have been a much cleaner silhouette.
But what really sells this look to me, along with the hairstyle, is her selection of archival Boucheron creations. As a Boucheron ambassador, Daisy had access to pieces from the maison’s Private Collection, including designs created by Frédéric Boucheron himself in the 19th century – the same era in which Jane Austen’s novel was published.
The standout is an agate pendant created in 1877, worn on a black velvet ribbon. The piece features a secret compartment designed to hold something personal, such as a message, miniature portrait or lock of hair. It’s exactly the kind of historical reference that makes method dressing interesting to me: the connection is there, but it doesn’t need to dominate the entire look.
She also wore a yellow-gold and agate cameo ring from the Boucheron Private Collection, adding another archival element to the story.
For me, it is the combination that makes this work: the custom Westwood gown establishes the period influence, while the hair and 19th-century Boucheron pieces take the reference further. I may have reservations about the skirt, but as method dressing for Sense and Sensibility, Daisy is off to a strong start.
