Celebrities in Dior for the 2026 Emmys
Jonathan Anderson dressed five celebrities in Dior for the 2026 Emmy Awards on Monday, but this wasn’t the showing I expected. Considering the individual style of some of these stars, four of the five looks left me wanting more.
Not The Grace I Expected
When it comes to Grace Gummer’s Dior Resort 2027 navy silk strapless bustier dress, I wanted to like it more than I did.
She had such a great style year promoting Love Story, but this is easily her most underwhelming look of the year. You can’t tease me with Issey Miyake, Valentino, Colleen Allen, Bottega Veneta and Dries Van Noten, then give me this for the start of awards season.
Perhaps my expectations were too high, but after such an interesting run, I expected her Emmys look to continue that trajectory. Boucheron jewels completed her look.
I Wanted More Joy
The same applies to Joy Sunday. Her style is so expressive and unique that this Dior embroidered white silk bustier dress doesn’t even meet her halfway.
It’s a nice dress, and I could see it working on anyone, but I wanted more from Joy. We know how much personality she can inject into a red carpet look, which is why this feels like such a missed opportunity. Boucheron jewels completed her look.
Too Big
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is my overcoat king, and while I love that he has been carving out a new niche for himself, I’m struggling with this Dior shawl-lapel tuxedo jacket.
I know. I’m just as shocked as you are.
I am a certified shawl-lapel lover, but I don’t think this cut flatters him. The jacket looks far too big, and Yahya is already a big man, so the proportions are throwing me off completely. I don’t get it.
A Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany & Co. Zinnia brooch, a Bird on a Rock by Tiffany & Co. Wings brooch and a Sixteen Stone by Tiffany & Co. ring completed his look.
Navy And Black? Not Me
Gary Oldman looks good in his Dior tuxedo, but navy and black are like brown and black to me: I just don’t find the combination compatible.
The tailoring works, and Gary carries it well, but the colour pairing is where he loses me. This is purely a personal preference, and one I’m unlikely to change any time soon.
Classic Wins
And then we have Donovan Colan, who, in his Dior timeless tuxedo, is the only one I actually like here.
Maybe that says everything about this Dior outing. After questioning proportions, colour combinations and dresses that didn’t feel right for the women wearing them, Donovan’s classic black tuxedo simply works. The fit is right, the proportions are right, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
