Anne Hathaway made a dramatic return to the red carpet at the Mother Mary screening, arriving at Picturehouse Central just as the buzz from The Devil Wears Prada 2 premiere began to settle.

For the occasion, she selected an Iris van Herpen Spring 2020 Haute Couture design – an intricate piece that places craftsmanship firmly at the forefront.

The Astral gown from the designer’s Sensory Seas collection is built with striking technical detail, with black leather laser-cut and hand-woven into a skeletal chain bodice. It forms a sculptural framework, making this an intricate and commanding piece where texture does much of the visual work. However, I do wish the illusion panel was less visible, as it interrupts the otherwise seamless impact of the bodice.

As we saw with her Lever Couture gown, this look also leans into a cinematic, fantasy-led wardrobe, continuing to feel like a subtle extension of the film’s visual language.

Whether you buy into this look will largely depend on how it aligns with Anne’s usual red carpet aesthetic. Known for polished tailoring and classic Hollywood glamour, this direction feels notably more experimental.

However, those lattice-strap black heels, while in keeping with the tonal palette, feel at odds with the architectural strength of the gown.

A for effort, but I just can’t look past the illusion panel.

And this is yet another rewear, as it was last worn by Paris Jackson back in 2025.

Stylist: Erin Walsh.
