Cynthia Erivo Wore Givenchy Haute Couture by Sarah Burton To The 2025 Met Gala
If you were expecting Cynthia Erivo to walk the 2025 Met Gala red carpet in a sharply tailored tux, we know she can do that, as she’s done it before. And while we know that Sarah Burton can deliver Savile Row precision with her eyes closed, the pair chose to give us an unexpected plot twist.

Instead of going down the obvious route, Cynthia wore a custom Givenchy Haute Couture look, designed by Burton, that flipped tailoring on its head—literally.

The jacket was sliced and worn back to front, showcasing a corset embroidered with black, silver, red, and gold crystals. Add a dramatically multi layered black tulle skirt and the effect was equal parts tailoring tribute and gothic fairytale.

There was definitely a nod to Wicked’s Elphaba in the overall vibe—dark, enchanting, but tastefully done without veering into costume territory. And yes, while some may have preferred tailored trousers, the skirt injected a dose of drama that felt absolutely right for the Met. It also gave the boots their moment—those black leather embroidered platform lace-ups deserved to be seen.
Topped off with Bucherer Fine Jewellery, this look was a glorious celebration of fantasy tailoring.
