2021 Met Gala Menswear Roundup

Aldis Hodge in dunhill - 2021 Met Gala

While I incorporated many menswear looks into the designer’s grouped posts, there were many more who caught my eye at the 2021 Met Gala on Monday (September 13).

Starting with Aldis Hodge. For all the wrong reasons.

The actor has been one of my favourites on the red carpet this year.  Only Leslie Odom Jr. is ahead of him.

But I was really underwhelmed by him in this white dunhill suit.

Before even getting to the black shoes, I was disappointed that he can do this look in his sleep.

I would’ve loved to have seen me work with an up-and-coming artist to create something memorable.  It didn’t need to be on the scale of Dan Levy, but something more creative would’ve been a great moment for him.

He was at the Dolce & Gabbana Alta Sartoria Venice show, surely one of those pieces would’ve worked.

The jacket looks like a Dior Mens jacket, the visible shirt feels a bit sloppy, and the trousers are way too long.

Back to the shoes….criminal. Absolutely criminal.  Like with Mindy’s look, real tears were shed.

Adrien Brody in Dior Men - 2021 Met Gala

Whenever I see a picture of Adrien Brody it feel like it could be from any point in time, because the actor will always wear a classic tux and sport this signature pose for every event.

On this occasion he wore a Dior Men black classic peak lapel tuxedo.

Ben Platt in Christian Cowan.jpg

Lupita N’yongo wasn’t the only one embracing denim at this event, Ben Platt rocked Christian Cowan’s version of the Canadian Tuxedo with rhinestones added for a touch of sparkle.

Did he play it safe, or could he have gone further with this throwback look?

A$AP Rocky in ERL

A$AP Rocky wore a coat of many colours from up-and-coming label ERL, while making his red carpet couple debut with Rihanna.

What a great way to help launch a brand.  I’m here for this moment.

Lewis Hamilton hosted a table for emerging Black fashion designers inviting Theophilio, Kenneth Nicholson, and Jason Rembert of Aliétte to the Met Gala.

He honoured his guest Kenneth Nicholson by wearing a custom suit featuring a beautifully embroidered sheer lace shirt.

Kenneth Nicholson was part of a mini trend of people wearing denim to this event. In this case, double denim.

Josh O’Connor in dunhill - 2021 Met Gala

Josh O’Connor gave an understated nod to classic 1970s American prom tuxedos dressed in custom dunhill suit.

It’s amazing how just a simple rick rack trim can transport this look back to the ‘70s.

Justin Bieber

After his oversized VMA look, Justin Bieber scrubbed up nicely wearing a sleek tuxedo from his streetwear label Drew House.

I particularly loved the cropped nature of his jacket.

Troye Sivan in Altu - 2021 Met Gala

Troye Sivan slipped into a LBD from Altu by Joseph Altuzarra’s upcoming line which embraces genderful dressing creating an inclusive exploration of gender fluidity through the medium of pared-back pieces that are at once contemporary and classic.

Cartier jewels and Rick Owens boots completed his look.
