Menswear has been quite a revelation this 2021 awards season.
On more than one occasion many of you have said that you actually preferred the men’s looks over the women’s.
I had to kick off this 2021 Oscars menswear roundup with Leslie Odom Jr. who wore a Brioni suit styled with a Cartier Panthère de Cartier ring.
The actor has probably been the best dressed this entire awards season – along with Regina King, Anya Taylor Joy, Cynthia Erivo in the early part – but I didn’t love this suit.
The fabric was the sucker punch. I can’t get on board with it at all, especially the way it looks creased in places.
I guess the gold boy had to have one off day.
The look was styled with an OMEGA Constellation Co-Axial Chronometer and patent leather shoes.
The ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ actor Colman Domingo stunned wearing a head-turning bright fuchsia Atelier Versace tailoring suit, which he paired with a shirt in a matching tone.
In true Atelier Versace fashion, the pieces were enriched with lustrous crystal-embroidery in a degradé pattern.
If this doesn’t speak to the statement, “real men wear pink,” I don’t know what does.
I’m shrugging when it comes to the black Christian Louboutin shoes, as I don’t know what else he could’ve realistically done here.
David Yurman jewels completed his look.
Nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role in Sound of Metal, Riz Ahmed – who tends to be more adventurous – opted for a classical wearing a Prada black single-breasted tuxedo, styled with a Girard-Perregaux timepiece.
You may be surprised to learn that I love how clean this is.
‘One Night in Miami’ actor Aldis Hodge was joined by director Regina King on the red carpet.
He wore a white Dolce & Gabbana white suit which I loved for the featuring subtle embossed tonal white-on-white textured detail.
Harry Winston jewels and Jimmy Choo ‘Sawn’ loafers completed his look.
Sacha Baron Cohen attended virtual from Australia, and mixed things up with cream trousers and a chocolate jacket and bow tie combo from Ralph Lauren.
The colour combination and the slickness of the tailoring really sold this look to me.
OMEGA accessories completed his look.
Lakeith Stanfield is always one to watch on the red carpet.
The Judas and the Black Messiah actor was taking us back in time as this Saint Laurent tailored jumpsuit.
Yes, a jumpsuit. I’m living for this ’70s mood.
I’m really surprised to learn that this Bottega Veneta suit is custom, because the trousers fit poorly on Oscar-winner Daniel Kaluuya.
All of his virtual looks were better than this. He should’ve saved his Alexander McQueen BAFTAs suit for this outing.
Cartier jewels completed his look.
Andrew Rannells was look slick wearing a Paul Smith midnight blue tux styled with Christian Louboutin Greggo Orlato shoes and Montblanc accessories.
The youngest star to walk the red carpet was 9-year-old ‘Minari’ star Alan Kim.
Proving that you can possess serious style credentials at any age, he brought his A-game to this event wearing a Thom Browne shorts suit styled with knee socks.
Prince George would be proud.
Jon Batiste proves that a classic Dior Men suit can be really intriguing with the right accessories – in this case the red feather brooch, and blue and silver crystal brooch which elevated the look.
Leslie Odom Jr. had a chance to redeem himself – in my eyes – at the Oscars after-party, which saw him change into a turquoise suit with his signature turtleneck, that was especially designed for him by Valentino Creative Director, Pierpaolo Piccioli.
This was his look of the night. More in terms of style, rather than colour, but the colour and crepe, cady fabric did also help with my decision.
But wait…there’s more, as Leslie had one more look on Oscars night.
This time he wore a Givenchy Fall 2021 suit which he styled with the brands signature silver G-chain necklace.
