Bounce TV aired the 29th Annual Trumpet Awards on Sunday (December 13) in Hollywood, California.
This year’s show is titled ‘The Bounce Trumpet Awards: Stand Up,’ carrying on the show’s mission in honoring African Americans who have used their platform to speak on social and racial injustices.
Yara Shahidi was one of the honorees this year, sharing the accolade with a number of people including Stacey Abrams, whose political vision helped deliver Georgia to President-elect Joe Biden.
Yara has kept a relatively low profile during quarantine, but she has assured fans that ‘Grown-ish’ season 3 will return to Freeform in January, 2021.
The actress served up two looks for the awards.
I love how they serve their own purpose in showcasing the diversity of this young woman’s style.
Starting with the tan and red leather Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2021 halter mini dress.
Sarah Burton has always had a penchant for transforming leather through a lens of true softness and femininity – as exemplified in this mini dress.
Some might find the silhouette tame by McQueen’s standards, but I feel, especially with the boots, the look is underpinned by a grunge, tough-luxe aesthetic.
Sticking with British designers, the actress wore a suit like no other from JW Anderson’s Spring 2021 collection.
While it might look like Yara has just landed from a skydive with her parachute activated, I see how the designer was able to add more volume and depth to this wide leg suit, while not overwhelming the silhouette.
Ultimately, for the uniqueness, the JW Anderson look just edges it for me.
