Lupita Nyong’o, Kelly Rowland, Naomi Campbell & Adut Akech Star In ‘Black Is King’

Lupita Nyong'o Giambattista Valli Fall 2019 Haute Couture Black is King

Beyonce had several guests appear in her new visual album ‘Black Is King,’ including Lupita Nyong’o, Naomi Campbell, Adut Akech and Kelly Rowland.

They all play their part in Beyonce’s first film with Disney+ to help the singer with her celebration of Blackness and it is a joy to behold.

Lupita’s first look is a gorgeous red ruffled creation that was designed for a dramatic setting.

While most of us had hope to see this stunning Giambattista Valli Fall 2019 Haute Couture red gown at Cannes or Venice Film Festival, Lupita brings it to life in this film.

I think the earrings and her braided updo add to the regalness, which we’ve come to expect from Lupita.

The actress’ second look was decked with ruffles, but this look hailed from the Rodarte Fall 2019 collection.

If the dress is feeling very familiar, that’s because Lili Reinhart wore this same dress last year for the ‘Hustlers’ Toronto Film Festival premiere, and January Jones wore the black leather version to the 2019 InStyle Awards.

Much like Beyonce’s ethereal look in this film, Naomi Campbell’s Alexander McQueen Spring 2020 dress feels very similar to the drees Kim Kardashian wore to the 2020 Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

Adut Akech Jil Sander Black is King

I was surprised to see Adut Akech in a brand other than Valentino.

Like a few other looks from this film, this Jil Sander Spring 2020 look was also a re-run, as it had previously been worn by Mackenzie Davis during her promo tour for ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ back in October.

Kelly Rowland Emilia Wickstead Black is King

Kelly Rowland gives us an edgy alternative to spring gingham during the recreation of the Mad Hatters tea party during this film, wearing an Emilia Wickstead Spring 2020 two-piece look with the highlight being the cut-out crop top with its trumpet sleeves.

All in all, a lot of credit should go to Zerina Akers and her team for creating such an eclectic range of looks which help tell the story along with the music and the lyrics.

I love that she used a mixed of established and up-and-coming designers to showcase the creative talent there is from around the world.
