March 10, 2020 Premiere, Runway To Red Carpet

Liu Yifei 刘亦菲 Wore Elie Saab Haute Couture To The ‘Mulan’ World Premiere

Disney’s live-action movie ‘Mulan’ held its world premiere in Los Angeles on Monday (March 9), with leading actress Liu Yifei in attendance.

I wasn’t surprised to learn that the actress had enlisted Samantha McMillen as her stylist, because Samantha knows a thing or two about dressing a lead actress for Disney promo tour, considering she’s been working with Elle Fanning for a long time.

And she didn’t disappoint in giving us fairy-tale moment in Elie Saab Fall 2019 Haute Couture.

The train on this shimmering gold, strapless gown was a train end all trains, as it took up the entire red carpet.

Some might feel that it was a bit too much, but if you’re not going to wear a gown like this to a Disney world premiere or on your wedding day, when are you going to wear it?

Thanks to the golden silk threads and sequins there was no danger of the actress being washed out, she carried off this gown with such easy and grace.

I’m here for her hair being down, and minimal makeup as the end result feels modern.

The skirt of the dress is stunning. The makeup is a big letdown though.

This is absolutely the amount of gown Liu Yifei 刘亦菲and this premiere merited and deserved.

The number of times Disney has premiered a respectfully done (I hear) live-action movie about an aspect of Asian culture, with a full Asian cast, prior to this premier is exactly ZERO, so tbqh, she could’ve worn an even bigger gown.

Perfect for the occasion. You want to get as many headlines for your film and for yourself when you are new to Hollywood, and Liu is indeed landing with a splash.

Too much of an outfit for a movie premiere, but just look at the fabulous details of this dress, a real work of art.

Standard Elie Saab. Pretty, nothing outstanding though.

Not exactly an original or interesting dress choice, but she sure does look gorgeous. And it works for a Disney premiere for sure (even though “Disney princess in Elie Saab” is something everyone from Lily James to Emma Watson have done on their promo tours. But then again, these Disney remakes as movies hardly are original either, so it definitely gets the job done I guess)

The dress is magnificent, but i think it washes her out a little and I’m missing some attitude. But she looks amazing nonetheless.

Is the dress gorgeous – yes! Have we seen this a 100 times before – yes!

The dress is fine but it’s easily a good 4” too long in the front. The length in the catwalk photo is perfect. It spoils the hang of the skirt when it puddles in the front.

PERFECTION. Perfect for the occasion. Elie Saab is boring for most occasions in the year 2020, but for the occasional big premiere, his work is stunning.

Its a gorgeous dress of course but it feels dated because we have seen exact versions of this a million times.
I have just been through the entire bdotw list here (from 2009 on) and yes, we have seen versions of this soooo many times.
Thats not to say she isn’t looking beautiful though!

Liu Yifei is often being called 神仙姐姐, which means fairytale goddess by her fans, and it’s not hard to see why. ABSOLUTELY SENSATIONAL, and can we just appreciate the epic moment when Heaven transcended a goddess to give us human her eternal blessings? Head to toe PERFECTION, well done Yifei goddess!

    Perfection. That dress is glorious.

I missed these looks on the Red Carpet. She does really look the part of a princess. The dress is a masterpiece. She needed a little more attitude, as the dress deserves it. But a good outing nonetheless.

Feels a bit like Fan Bingbing cosplay. I would have hoped they were going to go with something edgier. Some Guo Pei. A missed opportunity to showcase Chinese fashion.

The dress is stunning! I am missing something in her attitude though. Especially given her character… you look amazing girl, now rock it!

  17. CharlotteLG March 10, 2020 at 12:23 pm #

Perfect for such a Premiere, but we saw this dress so many times…

  18. Guest March 10, 2020 at 12:00 pm #

The gown and the girl are stunning, but I am left wishing for more color! Isn’t this the perfect opportunity for a gorgeous red gown? Or even yellow?

  19. Guest March 10, 2020 at 11:57 am #

The dress is amazing, but the hair and makeup needed to be more dramatic. As it is the dress wears her.

Chest up, looks way too timid considering the whole look. Feels like something’s missing.
