SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s 4th Annual Patron of the Artists Awards

Posted by Catherine Kallon

There were many more stars who joined Olivia Wilde on the red carpet for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s 4th Annual Patron of the Artists Awards, held at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday (November 7) in Beverly Hills, California.

Constance Wu:  Style-wise, we’re never quite sure what we are going to get from Constance Wu outside the promo tour for ‘Crazy Rich Asians.’  The actress wore an Etro Spring 2020 halter maxi dress which mixed elegance and boho charm. Irene Neuwirth jewels completed her look.

Ava DuVernay:  The director, who will be honored at the 2019 Glamour Women Of The Year Awards on Monday, may not have been a trailblazer in terms of style, but she definitely was when it came to colour.  Ava stood out in this custom chartreuse long sleeve gown by Greta Constantine.

Cynthia Erivo:  Speaking of trailblazing, Cynthia made a statement wearing a gold lame look with contrasting lapels that helped shaped this JW Anderson Spring 2020 suit.

Julia Garner: This Kate Spade New York fringe dress was met with classic styling including Wolford tights, Kate Spade New York shoes and bag, plus David Webb jewels.

Jennifer Aniston: It was a case of something old (vintage John Galliano) and something new (a dress that isn’t an LBD) for Jennifer Aniston, with her signature beach waves and simple sandals.

Angela Bassett: This may have been a surprisingly muted outing for Angela – colour-wise – but she looks as gorgeous as ever in this beaded jumpsuit.

Awkwafina:  The actress wore a beautiful Monique Lhuillier black and silver beaded layered gown with a Tyler Ellis clutch.

Jennifer looks amazing! So relieved to see her in something different.

    Constance looks best.

Some of these women look great: Anna, Cynthia, and Angela. My favorites are Angela and Cynthia. If this is what Jennifer Anniston chooses when she does not go for a LBD, I change my mind and now urge her to wear all the boring LBDs she can find. I’d expect to see Betty White in Awkwafina’s dress. She needs a new stylist.

I love Cynthia’s look and am shocked Jennifer Aniston is wearing a print. The dress is still really dated and cheap looking, even if it’s one of Galliano’s famous bias cut dresses.

Awkwafina’s stylist doesn’t understand her or purposefully suffocates her personality, because her style is so forgettable. Nora’s bright personality deserves better. She has so much potential. I’d love to see her in brands that aren’t worn often, of the Molly Goddard, Kenzo, Cedric Charlier, Marques Almeida, Junya Watanabe, MSGM, Issey Miyake, 3.1 Philip Lim, and Ellery variety. I’d be curious to see her in Petar Petrov, even though she’s petite. She has the chutzpah to carry boxy clothes. Monse’s suiting in particular would fit her vibe as well.

I forgot to mention Constance’s Etro is 2005 Kate Hudson but in a good way. Love the boho elegance.

Yes! I immediately thought of that dress too, and I absolutely loved Kate’s as well.

Cynthia and Angela win here for me.
    The others are

    • ok: Constance, Julia
    • same dress, different colour, still look fabulous: Ava
    • Not flattering: Awkwafina
    • nice change, wrong event: Jennifer

I like – not love- all the looks here. Ava’s waist looks so snatched and her dresses whilst nearly always in the same style are also done in the most sublime shades.
Jennifer’s dress makes me think of Sex And The City but it totally works now and looks really good on her.
Angela should have a L’oreal or Revlon ambassador contract.

I second the praise for Ava. She brings something new to each outfit whilst celebrating a silhouette that really works for her. It’s kind of Anna Wintour-like of her – they wear outfits that you automatically appraise as “what motivated Ava/Anna to choose that style, fit, designer and how does this fit into their style persona”, because their stylistic points of view come across so clearly.

These looks are all over the place. Ava is my clear favorite here. Beautiful color, and the fit is immaculate.
