Lana del Rey In Gucci – 2018 Met Gala

Lana del Rey turned heads at the 2018 Met Gala on Monday evening (May 7) in New York City.

Those wanting someone to fully embrace the theme should find favor in her custom Gucci gown which was inspired by Our Lady of Sorrows. No detail was forgotten as her initials were embroidered within the sacred heart on her chest.

The gown succeeded in capturing the theme, but the headpiece took it to another level, making this a look that will likely not be forgotten. This is the red carpet to bring out everything and she definitely did.

Thoughts?

I think she looked divine. I love everything about her look.

Love it and the “transgression” feelings that it’s inspiring in some readers makes it even more into the theme.

This could have been an amazing look, but the wig is giving me Manson family vibes

I take it back, THIS is the best headdress of the night! I think she has the sweet innocence needed to pull off an ostentatious look like this without seeming try-hard, plus she eats Catholic imagery for breakfast so this theme would have been a walk in the park for her. Love.

I like that she went all out but if you glance at it quickly it looks like a bird got stuck in her headpiece

loved the way this piece played off of jared leto’s offering—perfectly on theme and OTT to my taste for the event. wish she would lay off the fillers though.

While I appreciate the commitment this is too much. The headgear is too big and brings the already charged dress in costume territory. All over the place

Too much and the wig looks bad.

    So perfect for this event!!

That is the heart of seven sorrows, it’s related to the sorrows of Virgin Mary.

    It doesn’t work for me.

If ever there is a person who this theme would work for it would be Lana del Rey (and Madonna). I am having difficulty with the headpiece because it looks like birds eating the back of her head and I can’t unsee that. The dress works for the theme but I think I would prefer a less literal take on Our Lady of Sorrows.

I like this a lot. Yes over the top, but original.

There were photos of her, Alessandro Michele and Jared Leto together and I felt their looks worked so well together.

This one was over the line for me. The headpiece is great, but the Our Lady of Sorrows detail is like…a really serious religious thing and does not (imo) have a place as a fashion statement. She should have stuck with the St. Lucy’s eyes that she’s carrying. That’s folksier and less centric.
