Elle Fanning’s Effie Trinket Wardrobe Gives an Independent Designer Their Moment

Naturally, Elle Fanning couldn’t have worn her elaborate Robert Wun Fall 2026 Couture ballerina-inspired ensemble, complete with its mirrored fascinator, to the London premiere after-party for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, so a wardrobe change was in order.

Continuing to channel her character, Effie Trinket, Elle traded the pink couture for a richly patterned silk-velvet suit from Vancouver-based queer Canadian designer Evan Clayton, selecting Look 11 from his PHYLLIS collection.

I love how the gold and purple floral pattern, exaggerated shoulders and sculpted waist feel entirely in keeping with Effie’s extravagant wardrobe. The tailoring is fabulous, but it’s the oversized gold rose fascinator that really sells the look. At this point, I would be disappointed if Elle stepped out without something fabulous perched on her head.

What makes this appearance even more interesting is the choice of designer. Evan Clayton has dressed drag performers and pop stars, so his extravagant aesthetic feels like a natural fit for Effie. I also love that Elle and her stylist Samantha McMillen are using this press tour to introduce us to designers we might not otherwise see during a major press tour.

Evan revealed that the suit’s 1940s-inspired silhouette was created using vintage silk velvet. It was one of the first pieces he designed for his PHYLLIS collection, but among the last he completed.

“When I found the silk the suit is made of I was too nervous to cut into it because I had so little fabric available. I waited until the very end of my build time to make sure that I had a really strong foundation of patterns to work with and make this suit perfect perfect perfect!”

He also described dressing Elle as “one of the most surreal, cool episodes of my life,” adding that she had chosen his favourite look from his most cherished collection.

For me, this is another successful chapter in Elle’s Effie-inspired wardrobe. Even without the elaborate couture gown, she hasn’t sacrificed any of the character’s eccentricity.
