Ava DuVernay Knows the Beauty of a Full Skirt

Ava DuVernay attended the Netflix 14th screening at BFI Southbank during the London Film Festival on Monday.

It’s been a busy festival for Prada, dressing Scarlett Johansson and Sophie Okonedo, with results ranging from impressive highs to a disappointing low. Thankfully, Ava lands firmly in the former category.

Considering how much Ava loves this silhouette, her blue gabardine and satin dress was always going to be a winner. The rich cobalt blue is gorgeous against her complexion, while the structured fabric gives her the volume she loves.

I particularly like how the pleats fall from the waist, creating a beautifully full skirt, while the wide sleeves complement the proportions. It’s a familiar shape for Ava, but the combination of colour and fabric makes it feel fresh.

The champagne-hued Prada pumps are an inspired choice, offering a softer alternative to black without competing with the blue.

Prada on the red carpet can be something of a lucky dip. You never quite know what you’re going to get, but Ava has certainly picked a winner here.
