CaitrĂona Balfe Makes Print Clashing Look Easy

Following the London premiere, CaitrĂona Balfe was spotted in New York on Monday, where she continued to promote her new films, Tenzing and Sense and Sensibility on The Today Show.

The Irish actress, who is now working with Nicky Yates, was a walking masterclass in print mixing in Dries Van Noten.

The label is revered for its artistic approach to eclectic pattern mixing and vibrant visual storytelling, and we get to see that distinctive aesthetic in all its glory here. The silk wrap skirt alone is a masterclass in print mixing, combining oversized florals with panels of plaid and flashes of acid green.

Then there’s the plaid Dries Van Noten shirt. A solid colour would have been the obvious choice, but adding another check is what makes this feel like a true Dries look. It shouldn’t work against everything happening on the skirt, yet the clash is precisely what makes the combination so compelling.

And just when you think you can’t pack any more prints into one look, have a look at the Mary Jane pumps, which you may remember we saw on Grace Gummer.

You really have to be fearless with fashion to wear Dries from head to toe. I adore this look, although admittedly I would have stopped short at the footwear. CaitrĂona, however, makes the whole thing work.
