Lili Reinhart Channels Sandra Bullock’s Most Memorable Hervé Léger Moment

Lili Reinhart’s The Love Hypothesis press tour has already given us an impressive run of archival fashion, but her latest look takes the rom-com references somewhere film and fashion fans will recognise immediately.

While out in New York promoting the film, Lili wore a custom lilac Hervé Léger mini dress designed by Michelle Ochs. The reference? Sandra Bullock’s unforgettable makeover reveal as Gracie Hart in Miss Congeniality.

Sandra Bullock’s fashion archive is clearly resonating with a new generation. Lili’s homage comes fresh off Maisie Williams’ triple tribute to the actress’ red carpet and on-screen looks during the Practical Magic 2 press tour.

The custom dress is an exact recreation of Gracie Hart’s original look, from the fine halterneck straps and classic Hervé Léger bandage construction to that unmistakable lavender colour. Matching Bottega Veneta strappy sandals and tinted Marc Jacobs sunglasses complete the nod to Gracie’s post-makeover moment.

This is exactly why I’m enjoying Lili’s The Love Hypothesis press tour so much. There is fashion history behind the choices, and returning to Hervé Léger for a dress that became one of the most memorable fashion moments in a 2000s romantic comedy makes this particular homage especially satisfying. There’s also something fitting about Lili referencing another rom-com while promoting one of her own.

It also continues what Lili and her stylist Ib Abdel Nasser have been doing throughout the tour: treating romantic films as a fashion archive in their own right.

For me, however, Miss Congeniality might be one of their smartest references yet. Anyone can recreate a lavender mini dress. Going back to Hervé Léger is what makes the connection count.
