Burberry’s Front Row Was a Study in British Outerwear

Burberry’s Spring 2027 front row offered a reminder that when you have one of fashion’s most recognisable pieces in your archive, there are endless ways to revisit it.

The trench was naturally the main story, appearing in leather, classic gabardine and more decorative finishes, while leather trousers, winter coats and utility jackets expanded the outerwear theme beyond the house signature.

The Leather Trench

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Jorja Smith all wore leather versions of Burberry’s most iconic piece, immediately establishing one of the strongest trends on the front row.

There was another connection between Rosie and Jorja, who both wore fringed scarves with their trenches, adding another recurring Burberry detail to the mix.

Leather Trousers

Leather didn’t stop at outerwear. Jodie Turner-Smith, Gemma Chan and Jonathan Bailey all wore leather trousers, with Gemma providing the biggest surprise for me.

A black leather jumpsuit isn’t the type of look I immediately associate with Gemma, but she sells this tougher side of Burberry exceptionally well. Sometimes seeing someone move outside their usual style is exactly what makes a front-row look interesting.

The Textured Trench

Erin O’Connor and Pixie Geldof showed what happens when Burberry starts playing with the construction of the trench.

Their crinkled versions in rust and navy gave Burberry’s signature trench a more tactile finish. The foundations of the house classic are still there, but the textured fabric gives these coats a different character.

The Ruffled Collar Trench

Rachel Brosnahan and Nico Parker both wore trenches distinguished by oversized ruffled collars, adding a more decorative flourish to Burberry’s signature outerwear. Rachel’s charcoal version keeps the traditional midi length, while Nico’s shorter style felt more youthful.

The Classic Trench

For Ms Banks, Calum Harper and Joe Locke, there was no need to move too far away from the original.

Their looks returned to the trench in its more familiar form, from Ms Banks’ beige version to Joe’s dark coat with a flash of Burberry Check beneath the collar, while Calum kept things traditional in olive.

Ready for Winter

Considering this was the Summer 2027 show, Tems, Aliocha Schneider, Poppy Delevingne and Wu Lei looked remarkably prepared for a drop in temperature.

Tems arrived wrapped in a cream faux-fur coat, Aliocha opted for a double-breasted wool coat, while Poppy’s checked style combined leather trims with a fur collar. Wu Lei took the winter theme even further in a high-neck cream coat with black leather gloves. If the front row was selling anything, it was the idea that Burberry outerwear doesn’t need to wait for autumn.

Relaxed Utility

Romeo Beckham, Skepta and Koji Mukai took Burberry in a more casual direction with practical jackets and relaxed trousers.

Romeo’s hooded jacket, Skepta’s leather-panelled hoodie and Koji’s high-neck style all tapped into a more functional side of the house. And somehow, all three arrived with their hands in their pockets, which feels like the unofficial pose for this particular Burberry uniform.

Across the front row, the message was difficult to miss: outerwear remains Burberry’s strongest calling card, showcasing just how much mileage the house continues to get from dressing for British weather.
