It looks as though this will be Margot Robbie’s final look of the week for Wuthering Heights, shared on Instagram by her stylist Andrew Mukamal.

The John Galliano Spring 1997 ensemble is one of the more conceptually layered pulls from this press tour, connecting to the film in a quieter, more interpretive way than the overt Gothic drama seen on the red carpet. For those of you who have felt overwhelmed by the literal references, this may feel like a more considered alternative.

Galliano’s brand of historical romanticism sits comfortably within Emily Brontë’s world. The neo-Victorian corsetry provides immediate period grounding, while the softened, moss-toned pastel palette subtly evokes the Yorkshire moorlands, feeling atmospheric rather than theatrical.

The trousers worn beneath the overskirt introduce a note of gender tension, nodding to Catherine Earnshaw’s boyish depiction during her childhood and early adolescence. It’s a small but thoughtful detail that aligns with the character’s refusal to be easily categorised.

Galliano’s mix of Asian textile references and European tailoring mirrors the tension in Wuthering Heights, a story shaped by clashes of class, place and identity rather than harmony.

Choosing another archival look rather than a new season or custom piece feels especially apt here, echoing the novel’s preoccupation with memory, inheritance and the inescapable pull of the past.

As a closing note to the week, this look isn’t as loud as the premiere, but it doesn’t need to be. The archive and the reference do the work.
