Melanie Thierry attended the closing ceremony of the 2025 Marrakech Film Festival a little over a week ago, and yes, this might be late — but some looks are worth circling back to. Especially since we’ve been tracking Jonathan Anderson’s Dior journey so closely, I felt this deserved a closer look.

I wanted to talk about this because I really love it. And I’m curious if I’m alone.

We’ve seen variations of the drop-waist silhouette before. We’ve seen the pleating. None of that is new. What makes this work — what actually sells it — is the black lace overlay paired with the blazer. And if I’m being honest, it might be the blazer doing most of the heavy lifting here.

There’s a confidence in that choice. It reins in what could have tipped into something overly decorative and instead gives the look a sense of ease. Melanie doesn’t look like she’s negotiating with the dress or trying to justify it. She looks comfortable, which is also making all the difference.

It’s interesting to compare this to Rosamund Pike’s recent outing, where the effort felt visible, where the dress seemed to demand something extra from her. That isn’t the case here. Melanie lets the clothes sit naturally, and that’s what allows the details — the lace, the pleating, the proportions — to land without feeling overworked.
