Zhang Linghe brought texture and tonal richness to the red carpet for The History Of Sound Cannes Film Festival premiere this evening.

Judging by his emerald green Gucci Made to Measure velvet suit — and Hadley Robinson’s moment — velvet appears to be trending on this red carpet. And with the cold, damp start to the week in Cannes, Zhang’s look was sartorially smart as well as stylish.

The long-line jacket and subtly flared split-hem trousers offered a sleek, contemporary take on tailoring, elevated further by the addition of a silk shirt that softened the richness of the velvet.

In a sea of predictable tuxedos, this was a standout menswear moment.

As Chopard’s brand ambassador, he completed his look with a Chopard Haute Joaillerie diamond necklace, a Chopard Haute Joaillerie ring that subtly echoed the tones of his suit, and a Chopard L.U.C Flying T Twin watch.
