The 2021 Gotham Awards took place in the form of a hybrid live-virtual ceremony on Monday (January 11) from Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.
Renee Elise Goldsberry
The ‘Hamilton’ Broadway star did what she does best. Command attention. Usually via a breath-taking ball gown, but on this occasion she walked the red carpet wearing a glittering jumpsuit from Naeem Khan’s Pre-Fall 2020 collection.
While I love the bold orange hue, sequins (naturally) and the glamour this moment brought to the red carpet, I’m really disappointed by the Jimmy Choo ‘Talika’ pumps and ‘Bon Bon’ bag, as I feel that neither complemented her jumpsuit.
Plain accessories would’ve been preferred here.
If ever there was a person who could sell Matthew Williams’ debut Givenchy Spring 2021 collection it was Hunter Schafer. The actress, who has that smoldering Gothic essence to her style, seems like the perfect fit when taking to the red carpet in this black corseted dress accented with a Givenchy black vintage crocodile embossed leather multilock belt.
A look like this doesn’t need much more, but she styled the look with a selection of necklaces, and Christian Louboutin Izamayeah platform boots.
I’m a huge fan of Padma in rich jewel tones, so I was a little less enthused about her in this Ralph Rucci Spring 2010 off white dress.
Mostly for the colour, but secondly because the pattern reminded me of a fish bone.
I’m just not that into this at all disappointingly.
The actress wore a Christian Dior Fall 2020 mini bustier dress which was rendered in a simple grey check.
I wish she had opted for the blue and black check version we saw in the look book, as it has a lot more life and depth to it.
The ‘Miss Juneteenth’ star took home the Best Actress award virtually.
I hope a full length picture emerges at some point, because I want to see more of her strapless jumpsuit from Azzi & Osta’s Fall 2020 collection.
Mostly because it was my favourite at this event, but also because it had so many intriguing details such as the fold over bodice which twisted at the back to form a structure ruffle detail that was beautifully embellished.
The 18-year-old ‘Never Rarely Sometimes Always’ actress tapped into this event virtually, as her film was nominated in the Best Feature category, which missed out to ‘Nomadland’.
It appears that the last few Louis Vuttion looks have gone down well with the majority, and I have a feeling that this look from Nicolas Ghesquière’s Spring 2021 collection will receive the same praise due mostly to its wearability.
With no complicated shape, structure or mind-bending print, the trench coat, baggy dad trousers and graphic tee all had mannish ’80s silhouettes.
The LV brown cowboy boots stick out like a sore thumb, but they do nothing to deter me from liking this casual look.
