Get The Look: Mary J Blige's Elegant Modern Oscars Beauty

Inspired by the beautiful Old Hollywood beauty looks by makeup pioneer Max Factor, Celebrity Makeup Artist, D’Andre Michael found that Mary’s stunning features were similar to those of the stunning Hollywood starlets of the past.

Ultimately, his vision for Mary’s Oscars look was to feature elements of that classic Old Hollywood look while remaining current and unique to her beauty. The result was an elegant and modern makeup with striking eyes and radiant, glowing skin:

SKIN: The key to creating a flawless base is to start with freshly cleansed skin. D’Andre wanted to make sure Mary’s skin had a glamorous glow prior to makeup application and prepped the skin with Marc Jacobs Beauty Under(Cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer. This skin smoothing and hydrating primer added an instant boost of radiance to her skin and served as a nutrient-rich base for a lasting foundation application.

FACE: Once the skin was primed, D’Andre blended a custom pairing of Marc Jacobs Beauty Shameless Youthful-Look 24H Foundation SPF 25 in shades Deep Y500 and Tan Y480. Much like the foundation, he blended a custom layering of blush and highlight to create unique look that beautifully complemented Mary’s striking features. He layered Marc Jacobs Beauty Air Blush Soft Glow Duo in Flesh & Fantasy on the apples of her cheeks and diffused the color outwards. For that red carpet highlight and superstar glow, Marc Jacobs Beauty Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter was used on the tops of her cheekbones.

EYES: To achieve that stunning Old Hollywood-like eye makeup, D’Andre used two Marc Jacobs Beauty Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palettes. Beginning with the Glambition palette, he applied the “Over The Top” shade to the full eyelid. He then softly smudged “Glamour” along the lower lash line. Moving to Scandalust, the second Eye-Conic Palette, he continued the look by sweeping the “At The Office” shade along the brow bone. To define the eyes, “Little Miss” was blended into the crease. To achieve that vintage liner, D’Andre used Marc Jacobs Beauty Magic Marc’er Precision Pen Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner to line the upper lash line and wing it outwards. For the final framing touch, Mary’s lashes were layered in Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara in Noir.

LIPS: While many vintage Old Hollywood looks are finished off with a red lip, D’Andre softened the look and gave it an elegant finish by opting for a lustrous nude tone. D’Andre enhanced Mary’s already full and perfect pout by applying Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer Lipgloss in Taboo.
