‘A Wrinkle In Time’ LA Premiere Red Carpet Roundup

The Los Angeles premiere of Disney’s ‘A Wrinkle In Time’ on Monday (February 26) brought out the storybook romance in many lovely ladies.

Tessa Thompson: The ‘Westworld actress’ oozed retro elegance in an embellished Miu Miu dress. It’s clear she has considered the entire look, but I must say that the Judith Leiber clutch takes away from the diamantes on the gown. The Irene Neuwirth and David Yurman jewels were more harmonizing.

Tracee Ellis Ross: The ‘Black-ish’ actress was a beauty blooms in a Michael Kors Resort 2018 dress. The pleated style has a romantic fairy tale quality, but her styling gives it a fashion-forward finish. A Tyler Ellis clutch, pale pink boots and her cornrows elevate the look.

Oprah Winfrey: Va-va-voom! The multi-hyphenate looked sensational in a deep blue Atelier Versace number. She may not have gone the princess route, but I don’t think anyone will be complaining about this sultry number.

Issa Rae: I am very much in favour of the mood of the ‘Insecure’ actress’s ensemble, so it pains me that it wasn’t as successful as it could have been with the too-long skirt and wrinkles. There is such power and strength so it could have been a major moment.

Ava DuVernay: Another one who fell victim to a too-long skirt, the producer wore a custom Cushnie et Ochs dress. Given this was made for her, I would have expected the tailoring to be flawless. I will try to overlook it as the rich pink hue and wraparound neckline have an elegant effect.

Mindy Kaling: The new mom glowed in a custom Greta Constantine gown. The rich purple colour and fit are sublime and truly showcase her radiant beauty. A Tyler Ellis clutch and statement earrings rounded out the look.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw: The actress brought some light to the red carpet in a white Vionnet gown. The Grecian influence is clear, but it’s the rainbow banding around the waist that enlivens the look, projecting a sunny optimism.

Jurnee Smollett-Bell: The former ‘Friday Night Lights’ actress looked sweet yet sultry in a Missoni dress with David Yurman jewels and Katy Perry shoes. It was a quieter look, but it had sweet charm from the translucent pink fabric and billowing sleeves.

Angela Bassett:  The actress broke away from the gowns, donning a shimmering Greta Constantine vest and trousers. I’m enchanted with the sleek disco fabrication, but think the proportions of the top let her down a bit. With such a sensational figure, methinks a more fitted top would have worked more in her favour.

Storm Reid: The young actress continued to demonstrate her advanced fashion credentials in a custom Coach ensemble paired with a Coach ‘Dinky’ bag. I am charmed with the riff on the classic gown. It has a fun picked-from-the-costume-box quality thanks to the layering, yet it still has such style.

Gugu beats all the ladies by far. It’s not a bad red carpet, but it’s lacking in terms of the paying attention to the detail.

  2. Susie February 28, 2018 at 8:11 pm #

    Gugu looks absolutely stunning.

Tessa, Tracee, Oprah, and Mindy also look great as well. Overall a pretty strong premiere fashion wise.

GUGU better be on the BDOTW poll! That dress is beautiful!

    Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s dress! <3

What a pretty roundup! And the writing here was so lovely (I was super charmed by the note that Storm’s outfit had a “picked-from-the-costume-box quality” – totally agree)

Of the line up the only two looks I dislike are Angela’s and Issa’s, other than that I was in love with all the looks. My favs were Oprah, Tracee, and Ava.

  8. anonymous as always February 28, 2018 at 2:14 pm #

I never thought I would be saying this about Oprah Winfrey, but she’s looking very sexy here!!!
I also like Tessa Thompson, Mindy Kaling and Ava DuVernay (pitty about the lenght).
I like the Vionnet dress of Gugu Mbatha-Raw but I am not sold about the colour palette… It kinda cheapens the look for me.

  9. Amy February 28, 2018 at 12:13 pm #

    Gugu is a dream.
Ava and Mindy look amazing. the color is doing wonders on Ava despite the length
I love Tracee’s dress but it needs different shoes

Mindy and Gugu are BDOTW contenders, in my opinion. Tessa looks lovely too.

Mindy and Gugu are excellent here!
I’m sorry for Storm, but the dress is ugly.

  12. CreoleLady February 27, 2018 at 10:11 pm #

Mindy Kaling *swoons*, that purple, that fit. My fave, followed by Gugu M-R. Too bad about that hem because Ms. Ava’s waistline is fab as is the color. Love the rainbow feel of this red carpet.

Gugu is the definite winner here. Love that dress!!

  14. Sarah February 27, 2018 at 7:01 pm #

Tessa’s dress is so romantic and lovely for the occassion.

  15. quimby February 27, 2018 at 6:46 pm #

Also wish Oprah’s dress was longer, but she and Niecy Nash are the reigning queens of impeccable fit and foundation garments.

Love Gugu’s, this feels like a personal best for Mindy (that color!), and Storm is serving fantasy princess made modern by separates.

Let’s just all forget about Angela’s, shall we?

      >>Let’s just all forget about Angela’s, shall we?<<
      Yes, let's try.

  16. AnderBoBo February 27, 2018 at 6:24 pm #

Gugu is breathtaking and Oprah is seriously fierce!!!

  17. The original AB February 27, 2018 at 6:12 pm #

    Gugu looks so lovely!

  18. JHH February 27, 2018 at 6:00 pm #

Gugu and Tessa look great. The rest are okay with a couple of really bad, unflattering or try hard looks (Angela, Issa and Tracee) thrown in to keep it interesting.

  19. Pedro February 27, 2018 at 4:57 pm #

    Gugu looks fantastic! BDOTW

    Oprah looks amazing

  20. Chris February 27, 2018 at 4:52 pm #

    I LOVE Gugu’s look!

  21. Nat39 February 27, 2018 at 4:45 pm #

    Mindy and Gugu.

  22. EmmaWoodhouse February 27, 2018 at 4:30 pm #

    Gugu for BDOTW.
    Mindy as well.
Tessa and Ava round out my faves, and I love Storm’s skirt.

  23. TeaAtTwo February 27, 2018 at 4:14 pm #

Gugu is my favourite dressed here followed by Mindy.

  24. meme February 27, 2018 at 4:11 pm #

Love Tessa, Mindy and Gugu. Ava’s dress would have been perfect if properly tailored…such a shame because that color is fabulous.

Angela Bassett needs a new stylist. Now.

  25. Lashae February 27, 2018 at 4:09 pm #

Gugu is my favorite, she looks fantastic.

This is probably my favorite look from Mindy ever

I thought Tracee dress was D&G but shocked to see its Kors also its not fitting well, it looks like it might fall down

I think the worst of the group is Issa, terrible fit and color

    • Lyka February 28, 2018 at 2:44 pm #

+1 I was very pleasantly surprised and impressed by Mindy’s whole look.

    • Mimi February 28, 2018 at 7:50 pm #

I thought Tracee’s dress was D&G as well!

  26. Vizual Ninja February 27, 2018 at 4:05 pm #

Gugu is the clear winner here, she looks fab. Kinda wish Oprah dress was a full length esp since she stars in the film. Tracee’ look is ok but not sure about the shoe choice & the fit around the bust area could’ve been better. Everyone else is just ok.

  27. Jenna February 27, 2018 at 3:58 pm #

Tracee Ellis Ross’s dress looks like its about to fall off- bad choice. too low.

  28. Sarah February 27, 2018 at 3:57 pm #

so many beautiful colors! Oprah, Gugu, and Mindy all looked amazing! Although the dress was too long, Ava looked beautiful in that color!

I don’t know how much I liked Storm’s dress but she looks cute!

Can you do a men’s round up too?

  29. Caroline February 27, 2018 at 3:54 pm #

    Love Tracee and Mindy.

  30. Maria F. February 27, 2018 at 3:52 pm #

    Gugu looks amazing.

Tessa looks nice, but I agree about the clutch.

Great looks also for Oprah and Mindy.

Tracee’s top does not flatter her figure and I do not like the boots with it.

I like Storm’s skirt, but not the top, but it’s a cute look for her age and not too princess like, so points for that.

  31. Charlotte February 27, 2018 at 3:48 pm #

Gugu Mbatha-Raw is gorgeous ! BDOTW contender for me.
Tessa Thompson looks lovely, a win for MiuMiu!
And Tracee Ellis Ross’s dress looks like a bad Dolce & Gabbana, the print is not working, looks like an old couch.
