Tessa Thompson In Tingyue Jiang & Thom Browne – Build Series & ‘Sorry To Bother You’ New York Premiere

It would appear that Tessa Thompson is undergoing a change of direction style-wise.

Many of you weren’t onboard with her Rosie Assoulin MTV Awards look, so I’m intrigued to find out how you feel about these two latest offerings.

Build Series: If you watched the BOF Summit talk with Elizabeth Saltzman, Jason Bolden and Karla Welch, they all said in unison that they love discovering and breaking new designers. It appears that Tessa’s stylists, Wayman + Micah share that sentiment, as they outfitted Tessa in a dress by Parsons MFA graduate Tinygue Jiang. What I love about this piece is the imperfect elements, like the ripped shoulder and jagged edges. The look feels so raw and exposed, yet beautiful and fashion forward. Brother Vellies ‘Palms’ pump in ostrich feathers with plexiglass heel plus Dylanlex jewels completed the look, along with a single strand of white beads in her braids.

‘Sorry To Bother You’ New York Premiere: There are so many elements to her Thom Brown Spring 2018 look, that I’m not sure where to start. The lines are continually blurred between women’s and menswear, and no one does this better than Thom Browne. I love the semi-sheerness of the plaid fabric and the suspended skirt for a truly unique look. The point at which I found myself struggling was the accessories. The Thom Browne shoes barely pass, but the briefcase attempts to take this down a costumey path. Perhaps had the bag been smaller, I would’ve been on board. Carelle rings completed her look.

Tessa Thompson In Rosie Assoulin – 2018 MTV Movie And TV Awards

Tessa Thompson was a lady in red at the 2018 MTV Movie And TV Awards on Saturday (June 16) in Santa Monica, California.

Rosie Assoulin likes to plays with volume and bold colour to create pieces that are glamorous yet relaxed in style, both of which this Spring 2018 look possesses.

Opting not to steer too far from the look book styling, the actress truly embodies the boho vibe of the look with her thigh-grazing braids and barely there makeup.

Joan Hornig jewelry, matchy shoes and an Alfeya Valrina ‘Joe Joe’ furry trimmed bag kept the look contemporary.

‘Fahrenheit 451’ New York Premiere

The ‘Fahrenheit 451’ New York premiere on Tuesday (May 8) featured some bold fashion statements.

Tessa Thompson: The ‘Westworld’ actress was yet another one to fall for the spell of an unlined Christian Dior dress. I’m sure many are bored of the revealing skirts. Just taking into account her outfit, there was an intriguing mood with the play of the prim collared style with the black undergarments. The dusty purple frock with rich burgundy shoes was unexpected but most striking.

Michael B. Jordan: The actor looked dashing in Ermenegildo Zegna Couture. The subtle sheen and night sky blue of the suit were debonair. The touches of black added to the sharp finish, but the roll neck is making it veer towards being too wintery.

Sofia Boutella: Another one in a sheer style, she was clad in Alberta Ferretti Fall 2018. On the runway, the lighting didn’t make it look quite so naked, but on the red carpet we see just how revealing it is. It feels better suited to a performance piece.

Tessa Thompson In Thom Browne – 2018 Met Gala

Tessa Thompson made her debut at the 2018 Met Gala on Monday (May 7) in New York City.

While soft, ethereal silhouettes were a go-to for many, the ‘Westworld’ actress went in the complete opposite direction with a dramatically structured Thom Browne ensemble. The corset and padded hips offer plenty of allure, while the oversized jacket counters the voluptuous femininity of the gown.

She wore the embellished topper on one shoulder, both and draped to the side so one could see the glimpse of the choker and pearly button details snaking down her back. It was a look made for the occasion as everywhere we glanced there was a new intriguing detail.

Tessa Thompson In Christian Dior – ‘Little Woods’ Tribeca Film Festival Premiere

Tessa Thompson joined Lily James at the ‘Little Woods’ Tribeca Film Festival premiere on Saturday (April 21) in New York City.

I’m sure many may recognize this patchwork Christian Dior Fall 2018 skirt as a variation on the dress we recently saw Sienna Miller wear.

However, I have a feeling that Tessa’s look might resonate more successfully with you, as she brought such an innate sense of modern, cool-girl style to the quirky mishmash of plaid and ’60s-inspired patchwork.

On this occasion, I even loved the slight rebellion of the Dior bra peeking beneath her sheer blouse, as a Diorquake belt and Dior boots wrapped up the look in similar stead to its runway presentation.

She accessorised with an L’Afshar clutch and Bliss Lau jewels along with a dynamic, magenta lip and curls that brought such personality to the ensemble.

Tessa Thompson In Fendi – 4th Annual Veuve Clicquot Carnaval

Tessa Thompson was also at the 4th Annual Veuve Clicquot Carnaval on Saturday (March 10) in Miami, Florida, joining Eiza Gonzalez.

Relying on a quirky sense of girlish charms, this Fendi Spring 2018 cutout, cold-shoulder dress was nothing if not playfully spirited—especially when styled with the label’s socks-shoes and the ‘Kan I’ bag.

I have a feeling, though, that it will be the parachute-cargo effect of the skirt and its ribbons that might be the sticking point for some.

Tessa Thompson In Ralph & Russo Couture, Alberta Ferretti & Rodarte – Pre-Oscars Events

Much like Danai Gurira, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ star Tessa Thompson has been busy attending pre-Oscar events in LA.

2018 Essence Black Women In Hollywood Oscars Luncheon: Was this dazzling Ralph & Russo Spring 2017 Couture dress a bit OTT for a luncheon? Some might say yes, but I would say no. Evoking flapper girls of the Jazz Age, the look serves up elegance rather than over the top pageantry. Piaget jewels and white Christian Louboutin pumps help ground the look.

Vanity Fair and Lancome Paris Toast Women in Hollywood: I loved the 80s nostalgia imbued within her gold lame Alberta Ferretti Fall 2018 look which stayed on the right side of retro. With gold Giuseppe Zanotti platforms continuing the retro vibe, the Adeam white bag felt very much out of place.

‘A Beautiful Future’ Campaign with Fem the Future: With her Rodarte black, fuschia and yellow ostrich feather coat taking centre stage, the actress opted for simple separates as not to overcook the look. Casadei boots plus a stylish Cult Gaia ‘Lilleth’ tote, defined by its sculptural approach to design, added a fashion forward edge.
